We will be at BWV in August and we always get (and actually prefer) standard view units, but I've seen recent pictures which suggest most of the standard-view rooms are closed due to the ongoing construction (at least the exterior is covered with tarp so I'm ASSUMING no one is staying in those units).

Are many of the standard view units closed now? If so, do people who have reserved standard view upgraded to preferred? I added a cash night to our standard view ressie and had no problem getting it including the DVC discount, which suggests to me that SV rooms are anticipated to be available for August, yet I don't believe the work is supposed to be done by then.

I'm not sure if we were upgraded to preferred or not... we were there for two days in early May and had reserved a standard studio. We stayed in 2006 (I think) which overlooked a small courtyard behind a cast member building. The DVC offices were close by. Guess I'm saying that if that's a preferred view, we'll definitely stick with standard!! The view wasn't bad - just would not have been worth the extra points in our opinion.

That said, it looked to us as if all of the standard view rooms were covered with scaffolding.

Friends of ours did. They went in February and had reserved a preferred view studio. They were upgraded to a 1-bedroom preferred view. Boy, they were happy!

It's possible that the rehab project will be finished by the time you arrive. At the annual condominuim meeting for BWV last December, the BW GM said that the entire project was scheduled to complete in September, 2003. He also said that he and his staff were working on expediting the completion. If they were successful, he anticipated that the project would complete in August.

Whatever you room location, have a wonderful trip!

I just returned from the BWV. The preferred views still under construction were over the art gallery. The standard views were facing the Epcot (drive-up) side. It looked like they were going to finish up soon.

Good luck

Hi all! Going to BWV in 8 days, and have a studio (acutually 3 of them for friends and family) and they are all standard view. How would I know if I could get an upgrade? Should I call now, or wait till I get down there or not? These friends have never been to BWV, and a little worried now. Any advice?
THANKS!
Deerh

Is it more important that your 3 studios be close together? It's possible that you could end up a far distance from each other if they upgrade some or all. If you want them close together, I would call and request that.

No need to worry. If there are more standard view rooms boked than are available, you will be automatically be assigned to a preferred view room. I'm sure you will all have a good time and your guests will be impressed. Enjoy!

We were "upgraded" to a preferred view in March. We could see Tower of Terror off to our right from our baclonies.
We LIKE standard view and missed not being able to see Illuminations from our balcony that trip!

We had booked a standard view two bedroom for March and were upgraded to preferred. Looked out over the waterway towards Swan and Dolphin. Wasn't worth the extra points IMHO. I too, missed looking over the front of the resort.
