Anyone Get a Kindle Fire?

Would love anyone's thoughts on a Kindle Fire. I wanted to get one, but now I can't decide. I read/hear a good review, then a not so good review. Maybe it would be better to wait for Fire 2.0?

I bought one at Target. Brought it back 2 hours later. It just annoyed me to no end. Glossy screen, slow response, not very intuitive in moving around. Bought the Kindle touch instead.

I was surprised at its weight. It weighed about as much as my iPad. I know that is not much of a review, but that's all I know.

I love mine! I was surprised that no one on here had any comment about the Fire when it came out. We now have an older keyboard Kindle (good for reading a long time with the e-ink) and the Fire. I do some reading on it and I've also become addicted to Angry Birds. I know its been out for ages, but I never tried it before now. I can check for the free app of the day and surf the web. I also like watching Netflix on it and will probably use the Amazon streaming video too since we are Prime members already. I take it for trips out of town, but I still don't have a cover for it, so I don't want to stick it in my purse and take it around yet.

I have found the book pages to turn quickly as does the carousel of recently used books and apps.


It is similar to my itouch but bigger so it is easier to see. However, not so big that I couldn't fit it in my purse. My only issue now is there don't seem to be any good covers. At least not that I like anyway. So I'm keeping it in a camera case until I can find one I like. And the covers currently available run $30-$40!

I looked at the Oberon covers that the podcast liked for their other Kindles and discovered they are a local company! I never even realized that. Their covers look very nice of course but cost $70.

I guess everyone has their own preferences but I've enjoyed mine and found it easy to use.

I havent investigated the Kindle Fire very much because I have an iPad.

If I didn't have the iPad....I'd be all over the Fire like a cheap tent.

The functions they perform overlap so much that having both isn't necessary.

I do find that I now do all my reading on the iPad using the Kindle app.

I like iBooks, but prefer the Kindle app.

I saw a Kindle Fire cover for $7 on Amazon. I'm not sure it's a good cover, but it should serve my purpose of keeping the screen protected in my purse.

Wow, I'm not seeing one for $7. I found one that someone is selling "refurbished" for $4,500! Why does Amazon even let people do that?

I've been pretty pleased with mine. I think if I had an ipad it wouldn't really get used, but since I don't, it's been great! Now I just need to figure out how to make it waterproof so I can read in the bathtub!

I bought one, played with it for a day and sent it back. I did so just because it would do some of the things I wanted to use it for. If you're just using it as a reader, then it would be fine (albeit heavy).

A few big annoyances:

1. It allows you to quickly set Hotmail as your mail default and it shows you all your e-mail just fine. However it WON'T synch your contacts, so if you want to send someone an e-mail, you'll need to manually type in their e-mail address and contact info.

2. Some web sites simply didn't work. I ran into this with some message boards I visit. I could read the posts but when I'd click reply nothing would happen.

3. There simply aren't that many apps for it yet. I'm sure that this will get better but for now many of the apps I use regularly, especially when traveling, are missing.

So I returned it and bought the iPad. Everything there just works.

Thanks for the input. I think I'm going to try a Fire, I don't need anything fancy and want something smaller than an iPad. I may wait though for Fire 2.0, I don't think it's going to be very long before it comes out and hopefully some of the bugs I've read about will be worked out.

Yes, I have used a kindle fire to get on the boards! We have an iPad and a kindle fire (don't ask) and I have to say, there's a reason the fire is half the price! The battery dies much faster on the kindle, websites are hard because the screen is so much smaller (harder than my iPhone for some reason), the glare on the kindle is more noticeable than the iPad, not sure why. Also the navigation is much more confusing. In my opinion, if you want it for very basic stuff, it's fine but any heavy web use is going to be frustrating.

I'm fine with it, though my two only real complaints have been mentioned. Short battery life and glare. I like it, though, and have used it a lot, and for very little reading!

Loads of people are getting them. After the iPad, it's the top-selling tablet, which IMO is especially impressive considering that it is so new.

Reports on the Kindle Fire have been very positive so far, but the post-Christmas reviews will seal the deal.

The poor little Nook, though... Didn't anyone over there say, "Oh, crap" when they heard about the iPad??? Amazon obviously did.

Some are good and others...not so much.

I think comparing the Kindle Fire and the iPad is like comparing apples and oranges.

Yes....the Kindle Fire does some of the things the iPad does, but it's not an iPad....but it doesn't claim to be.

The iPad comparisons are made by people looking for a $199 iPad.

If the Kindle Fire fills the needs you have...great.

If you need / desire / want / covet / long for an iPad, the Kindle Fire will be settling for less that you need / desire / want / covet / long for.

Doing a bit of research should help you make your decision.

I am intrigued by the Fire. I love the idea of a Kindle, and love using my daughter's anytime she let's me, but the fact that I still have to use a book light to read in bed irks me. I love the price point of the Fire, but not sure if I want to spend $200 to give it a try. I know that I will love an iPad, so I should probably just go that way, even though it is much more expensive...

On the other hand, I have a friend who is very much an Apple fanboy who has been raving about his new Fire...

I prefer to read actual books, but living overseas makes it much harder to just get a book. With an e-reader or tablet, I can just log on and download what I'm looking for. I've tried doing it on my iPhone, but it just isn't the best way to do it...

I'd stay away from the Touch also. I just returned it because it kept freezing and rebooting for no reason. Seems like alot of other people have been having the same problem. I think i need to do more research before i buy another.
