Anyone get a cortisone shot before a trip?

Hi! We are heading the Disneyland Nov 19th. I've been having ankle tendonitis trouble. I had an MRI back in January that showed the tendonitis and an effusion in the ankle joint. Back in January things got better but we moved in June and things started to hurt again. I went to see a new doc in my new town and he thinks I might either have it again or it may not have cleared from before. In September I was in a walking boot for 3 weeks and then I had physical therapy for 3 more. My ankle is better, but it is not 100%. I've also still had some ankle pain in the main ankle joint where the effusion was. The doctor offered me a cortisone shot in the ankle joint right before our trip to help my pain. My problem is, is it doesn't hurt all that bad now. I'd say a 1 or 2 on the pain scale. I don't think I need the shot, but my husband reminded me of how much walking we are going to be doing. Do you think I should get the shot even if my pain isn't all that bad? I've never had a shot before, so it is all new to me. The doctor will probably order another MRI when we get back for the tendonitis but I have an ankle brace for that for our trip. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!.

Either way if your problem acts up you might need a scooter.
To make it easier at the time have all the info for an off-site scooter rental.
I have the number programmed in my phone. Twice now we have need a scooter rental ASAP after a foot issues came up.

I personally wouldn't do it. I have severe tendonitis in both of my ankles from being an elite figure skater. I got cortisone shots once and swore I'd never do it again as the shots seemed to make it hurt worse than before.

I wish you tons of luck.

Agree with the pp that an ECV might be a very helpful option on this trip. Also agree about putting off the shot, at least until after the trip. My shot helped so much, seemingly, that I actually did more damage which went undetected until after the shot wore off. And, for me, the side effects of the cortisone were not worth it in the long run. So now my doctor won't give me any more shots and we are working on other options.

I didn’t have the same issue as you, but the only time I had one done 1- I found out I had an allergy to it so immediate bad result 2- it ended up making my ankle hurt way worse! 3- after that faded my pain was no better. I know it works for some but I’d be more inclined to invest in ice packs of some kind and/or heating pads to relieve pain vs the shot since you just never know. There’s lots of good places to take it easy if your ankle gets bad and if you have MP vs FP you won’t have to walk as far too. Hope it goes well!!

I had a different issue but got one 2 days before a Disneyworld trip and it was like night and day. I had bursitis in the knee and it hurt to walk or lift my leg. I was so happy I did it. Took about 3 days for it to fully help. I would do it again. If I was worried it might come back I would get another. Have a great trip!
