Anyone Game? It’s my Sep 2013 Blog! I'm home; with a TR link in #1189, 10/14

I notice you have a new ticker... :rolleyes1

To ticker or not to ticker.....that WAS the question. :thumbsup2

Turns out that there was enough space in my siggie afterall.....when viewed from a 'kaputer.

Too bad it's chopped off from handheld devices.

Ticker weird using Chrome on computer on post # 829 where you have Donald
in the green square to the right side then I see the whole ticker and the links
to ptrs/trs underneath it

AFTER that point when you have Donald to the left I then can't see the bottom of it or the bottom of your new ticker or any of the links

Haven't tried looking on the cellphone ...just plain weird :confused3

That is weird! Wonder if anyone else is not seeing all of my siggie?? :confused3

shall we start a poll like the one where should PIO sleep ? :rotfl: that one I liked...wher did you ever decide ? I think maybe I should get some sleep been up a Loooong time

Cool looking moth. Nice new ticker, they help relieve the bad four letter word days.

If it's winter, it must be time to go to the Seaside

Yesterday, two humpback whales were spotted in Melbourne's Port Philip Bay.

With the reports hitting the local news, DH and I decided that an early morning drive was in order. Afterall, the whales were spotted in the section of the bay about 15 minutes from where we live.

Yes, it is winter and morning temperatures have been in the mid 40's but hey.....we don't often get visitors like these in the Bay.

The Rickett's Point Marine Sanctuary consists of 115 ha of area that stretches out 0.5 km into the sea. Designed to provide an area where the fish and intertidal organisms can flourish without threat of fishing, the rocky platform area here is somewhere that has become a destination for school excursions and locals to enjoy fossicking about the intertidal rock pools.

We did take a look for whales….but there were none to be found. And it was cold!

But we did make the most of our opportunity and I had a great time looking at the rocky platform.

Coralline Red seaweed.

Neptune’s necklace or Hormosira.

A salt tolerant bush!

I used to study Marine Biology, so it was great to check out the intertidal animals here. The limpet was moving about in the golden morning light.

It was about the only thing moving about. The others were happy to sit in the rock pools until the tide came in with more food.

As we headed back, this spoonbill was wading about.

When you gotta go, you gotta go!

And that spoonbill? Well…..I may not have caught up with Jonathan Livingstone Seagull today; but that spoonbill sure made up for any missed photo opportunities I have not had lately!

Bird in Flight!

We may not have seen the whales, but I had a great time this morning.

I'm glad you got such cool pictures this morning! I sure wish I spent my time doing photographical things. As much as I enjoy interacting with people, I think I would rather be relaxing!

Nice pics, and yes, when you go to go, you got to go... He-he.. :)

Beautiful pics...

What a lovely day you & DH had and thanks for sharing it princess:PIO Always enjoy seeing your photos

Made your fried rice tonight. Store didn't have that kepac manis (sp?) but I was able to get sweet soy glaze and it worked well! DH and DS loved it and said it was a keeper!:thumbsup2

YAY!!! Glad your family loved it. The sweet soy glaze is a good substitute.

Love the spoonbill pics, I've been drooling over the new Canon EOS Rebel SL1.

Great photos PiO. Your siggie looks good to me :thumbsup2

Oh cool!

I can procrastinate over those photoboard images even longer now. ;)

Love the spoonbill pics, I've been drooling over the new Canon EOS Rebel SL1.

Thanks. I'm not sure about the SL1. It looks nice and small but it still uses the existing lenses. Some of my bigger/heavier lenses might break it. :lmao:

The 3 Month Check-in

In 3 months' time, I'll be on a plane flying somewhere over the Pacific Ocean.

To mark this checkpoint, I thought it was time to update my Pre Departure Checklist, as an international traveler:

1. Passport Validity. Previously COMPLETE.

2. Long Haul travel. Previously COMPLETE.

3. Electronic System for Travel Authorisation. I have signed in to the ESTA site and paid up the fees to ensure that all 3 of us have valid travel authorisations. COMPLETE.

4. DFAT registration. Sadly, I wont be able to register until AFTER I sort out Travel insurance. The DFAT site needs that information.
ACTION: Complete registration, but insurance first. Target completion: End August 2013.

5. Travel insurance. My family friend of a Travel Agent is back in town. So, I need to tap her on the shoulder and get this done.
ACTION: Still to-do. As it's now June/July, time to set this in action. Target completion: End August 2013.

6. Medical bits. I've gotten a couple of things and am starting to collect them in a pile. Still have a lot more things to get; but I'll get there.
ACTION: Target completion: End August 2013.

7. Foreign currency. I've been buying currency for the better part of 9 months now. My exchange rates have been anywhere from $1.06 through to $0.95. The dollar is dropping like a stone and I've locked in nearly as much as I possibly can. I will still be purchasing currency right up to the point of departure and beyond; and the exchange rate of the day will be anyone’s guess.
ACTION: On-going conversion of currency.

8. Internal US air travel. All my internal flights are now locked in. I'm flying SouthWest for one of the legs – managed to purchase the tickets on sale; and American Airlines for the others. I decided to buy a multi-city ticket which worked out cheaper than buying them separately. I even broke the cardinal rule of never checking flights after you've bought your ticket.....but I'm really glad that I pulled the trigger when I did. My AA flights would now cost me $600 more for the 3 of us.
And as we are at the 3 month mark, one of my flights has had a time change. It’s now departing 2 hours later but the change is probably better for my schedule.
But this task is now COMPLETE.

9. Airline Luggage allowance. SouthWest provides us with checked baggage allowances; so there will be no baggage fees to pay. We will have to pay for AA; but I've included an allowance in the budget for this now. COMPLETE.

So I guess most of the items left on the list hinge around travel insurance and medical related. I'm calling it good progress on my to-do list!

Sounds like you have everything under control, but what a pain it seems to be to travel to the US!

I need to start my checklist thanks for the reminder...

Yours is looking very complete...
