Anyone Game? 2 Castles and a Road Trip TR! Last Day and TR Wrap Up! #2796; 10/01

I keep thinking I'll get to my computer so that I can see your pictures in full size and will be able to comment properly, but I clearly see that will not be happening any time soon.

I had no idea where you guys went when we split up. I just know it had been a long time since lunch and even though they thoroughly stuffed us we needed nourishment. We grabbed a corn dog while you rode and were abke to meet back up. You got some great pictures. For whatever reason I didn't take many until the parade.

Thank you for capturing Fran and myself. I still love her costume!

I'm one that really likes Tony's Not crazy about the sauce but not awful. Years ago you could have breakfast there, wish they would bring it back.

I've heard so many times not to link an event ticket to the MB many problems, I know you didn't do it but what a mess. Glad they took care of you with the FP any time.

I laughed when I saw Fran's costume and it's just as funny seeing it again . Alison looked beautiful. Still can't believe we didn't get a group picture or spend really any time together. Next time for sure...and there will be a next time.

I did spend time with Ed for awhile. In fact I think this was the first time we met. So I will share 2 pictures of my meets that night, because I know you won't mind :)

A very nice day at the MK during MNSSHP. Those are very nice costumes Alison and Fran. That was great that Ed joined you on riding BTMRR. The HM pictures are very nice.

Looking to hear more.

What a shame that you did get a group photo at the DIS Meet. How nice that you did not have to wait long for either ride. I love the last photos with all the coloured lights.

I found the Kecap Manis on Amazon, but it's sold in bulk! When I had googled it, a link came up on how to make your own Kecap Manis using 1/4 cup soy sauce and 1/4 cup + 1/8 cup brown sugar and making a reduction from it. Is the Kecap Manis sweet? Do you think this homemade recipe would taste similar? I really want to make this next week.

Such wonderful items you got at F&W. Can you believe, I did not order any food item from Belgium! I know lots of people recommended that potato and leek waffle, but I just couldn't do it.

Sorry about all the trouble that the tickets caused you. Although it wasted a ton of time, glad you got some instant FP's out of it. Even better that you still haven't used them yet up till now!

I really like Tony's too. Good spaghetti.

Fran and Alison look terrific!

Nice of the CM to override so SunDial could ride also.

Amazing HM pics!

That should work. The other name that PIO uses for the Kecap Man is is sweet soya sauce.

What she didn't share, or if she did it was so long ago, I forgot, so I'll potentially repeat it.

I told PIO that I had secured the "key-cap manis".

She laughed, "the WHAT? ???" And then she realized, " oh we call it "Ketchup manis"

:rotfl2:

Okay i'll give that substitute a try, thanks Alison!

:rotfl: that's how I was saying it in my head! But now I know:thumbsup2

I'm so disappointed I won't get to go to a MHP this year. It'd be so much fun dressing up and checking out everyone's costumes! I love the caveman family :thumbsup2

Your photos from BTM made me a little motion sick :rotfl: Love the mood lighting around HM.

Sorry to hear about all the FP+ issues and the ticket problems.

Your day was fun filled for sure, it seemed like a very long day to me!

Please pardon our stardust whilst we address some issues... Sorry about the problems with MB! There does seem to be multi tasking problem there!

Oh I just love to ride Great Thunder at night :-) the MNSSP is my favourite event! Love Fran and Alison's outfits :-)

Always been wanting to try Toni's. Must get round to it I too have heard mixed reviews but you have to try for yourself!

Love your photos of HM. It looks glorious at night!

Love the Halloween costumes. You got great pictures on the rides. I cannot believe how clear most of them are. Sadly, I broke our DSLR (second one), so I have been using our cell phones for pictures. It's not like I ever learned how to use the DSLR anyway.

Nice to see you posting on the Dis!! Hope you've been well.
You broke your second dSLR??? :faint:

Thanks.

I took a *few* of the parade. :rolleyes1

I love both Fran and your costumes. You two did great that night. :thumbsup2

Thanks for posting Ruthie. I know you and Ed did get some pictures together. I just wish we'd taken one of all of us together before we split up. Nevermind. NEXT time. :goodvibes

Thanks Corinna. I really need to capture more group/people pictures. It'll have to be an aim for the rest of this year.

YAY for finding the kecap manis recipe. It is sweet. Yes, I think that recipe will taste very similar. It has a consistency like runny honey.

The Forgotten Ride - Splash Mountain

There had been another reason why we hightailed it over to Frontierland.

I'd completely forgotten that I had another FP+ booking for Splash Mountain after PotC. We squeezed in getting wet just before the Tony's dinner.

So, catching up on the moment....Here's the photopass picture of us just before the drop.

It's not good, it's not bad. We just don't know the Full Story yet

I once heard a folktale that resonated deeply with me.
The moral of that story has been one of those things I come back to whenever I start to wonder "Why Me?".

You know those moments in life.....where you think the whole world is falling apart around you and you feel that you need a fresh dose of perspective.
You'll have to indulge me with this particular post of storytelling. I needed to put it down on paper.

The backstory?

You will also have just read about the not-so-magic band experience and losing some precious park time. I may have gotten some pink-slip pixie dust in return for the lost time but at the time, I was less than calm, cool and collected when I left the window.

In a moment of irrationality, I insisted on renting a locker to leave my tripod there until it was time to shoot the fireworks. DH and I did have a little melt-down over this decision. Afterall, it was going to be about 3 - 4 hours' worth of locker rental and he figured I could carry the tripod round for that duration.
Not me. I was hot and bothered and there was no way I was carrying round an extra 3.6 lbs for that time. So I rented the locker. That left me with the inconvenience having to go back to the main gate at MK and having to retrieve the tripod at some stage in the night. I obviously didn't think through the logistics of this.

The folktale moral?

It's effectively a tale of a wise old man providing feedback to his village when they come and complain about everything and anything going wrong. After listening to their latest tale of woe, he just smiles and says "It's not good, it's not bad. We just don't know the full story yet". In many of the tales of woe that the villagers brought to him, it turns out that the bad luck usually leads to something good after a while. But this folktale it's not just your usual saccharin sweet folktale. With this one, the good luck may also lead to something bad after a while. Through it all, the wise old man listens, smiles and says the same thing. Hence the tagline of "It's not good, it's not bad. We just don’t know the full story yet".

So.....it was bad luck about the MB; which led me to doing a purely stupid and irrational thing and leaving my tripod at the front gate locker. It was bad luck that we were at the HM, about as far away from the front gate as it gets and me having to get it some 3 hours after I'd deposited it in the locker. It was awful timing in that I'd completely not taken into account the crowd level down Main Street queueing for the first parade which meant that there was no way I was going to make it back to the Dis-group to watch the parade with them.

The full story?

I had managed to retrieve my tripod with about 5 minutes to go before the parade headed down Main Street. As suspected, I knew there was no way I was getting through the throng a second time. I happened to spot a gap in that 'island' in the Town Square looking straight down Main Street. It just happened to be big enough for me. This was the view to the right of me. You may recognise it and begin to figure out my location.

And to make matters even better, there was a family next to me that had split up. The kid in front of me decided to move to the other side of where the family was and that meant that an adult and a child moved. I ended up with prime position pretty much in the front of that roped off area.

Yes. I scored this view about 2 minutes before the parade came down Main Street.

And those of you interested in photobabble and that have been with me since I posted about day 5 of this trip will know that my favourite walkaround lens stopped working at that point. I had to make-do with the lesser favoured lenses in my bag. There had been plenty of moments about lenses during this trip and this was definitely another sobering moment of the life lesson around "It's not good, it's not bad. We just don’t know the Full Story yet" with lenses.

It was all to converge at this particular moment.

I shot MNSSHP parade with the humble inexpensive 50 mm/f1.8 lens not by choice but out of necessity. Would I have loved to have my more favoured lens on the camera? Absolutely; but that's only because I'm really attached to that lens.

After the next 15 - 20 minutes, I don't think I will ever think of that 50 mm as a humble lens again. And I don't think I would have traded this period in time; with all the good and bad with Magic Band, tripod leaving and non-working lenses.....for anything in the world.

Okay. Storytime over. Let's check out the pictures, shall we? For the record, I'm really happy with how these pictures turned out.

Some fun things we do to scare you, boo
It's good to be bad, It's good to be bad
To laugh about the very scary fun that we had

Cause a chill, more to thrill
Yes you know that we will
So prepare to be scared
It's just part of the drill

Yes it's true
Yelling boo
Is the thing that we do

And to you
We confess
It's the one we do best

It's good to be bad
It's good to be bad
It's fun to be the one to make the good guys so mad

Cast a spell
Scream and yell
And it suits us so well
All the fun that we've had

Great pics PIO. You had a perfect spot. The next time I get to this party I have that spot in mind. Also the 50 1.8 is a great lens. I went wider and got the 35 1.8 for evening pics without using a flash. I love the lens.

You couldn't have asked for a better spot for the parade pictures with the castle in the background.:thumbsup2

You'll be dressing up for another day, won't you? :thumbsup2

Is BTM a ride you would get on without motion sickness?

Yes, I'll be dressing up for Dapper Day :thumbsup2 It's a different type of dressing up, but it'll have to do :rotfl:

I have no problems doing BTM in real life, but I do have a problem with those sorts of photos in general. On a related topic, I have found that I have a very small problem with the lift in my new work building :rotfl: Lucky it's only a few seconds at a time!

I'm glad your story had a happy ending :goodvibes You got some great photos of the parade :thumbsup2 Is it weird that I think the headless horseman doesn't look scary because his horse has beautiful kind eyes? :rotfl2:
