Anyone Game? 2 Castles and a Road Trip TR! Last Day and TR Wrap Up! #2796; 10/01

:rotfl: Yes and no. :duck: No - because both those items were absolutely delicious. Yes - I would have thought that all that mountain greenery and waterfall would have appealed to you more. :rotfl:

:rotfl: When I'm really hungry and reading a TR, I'm afraid a big slice of pie is always going to look better than a waterfall.

As for the whole coffee thing, my DH felt the same way. I'm not a coffee drinker and IMO it tastes awful anywhere in the world, but my DH went into some serious coffee withdrawals on our last trip.

I absolutely love visiting small little towns and villages. Find the best finds there as compared to larger cities. And the local food is usually always good! :thumbsup2

Is a windcheater the same as a windbreaker?

Amazing pics along your. That waterfall was so pretty.
Yum to the food. It looked delicious.
That is too bad you had rain.
The museum looked cute and interesting.
The quilts look amazing.
Too bad you couldn’t go see the carvings.
LOL. The sign about children is hysterical.
The desserts look good.
The sub looked delicious. I am getting hungry reading. LOL
Great updates and pics.

Even though it was raining, you guys got to do something in town which is a good thing to do. The pizza and sandwich looks delicious.

Yep, small towns are awesome :goodvibes And I'm really not much of a shopper, so that part doesn't bother me either :thumbsup2

Where are you planning on visiting? March is my favourite time in Melbourne. The real heat is over but the days are still warm, nights are cool and crisp and there are lots of festivals to enjoy.

But it's not necessarily the best time for Queensland as it can still be warm and humid there. It'll be about the same as hitting Florida in Sep/Oct.

The other time is springtime; October/November. It might be a better time for Queensland and not too bad for Melbourne. However, if you suffer from hayfever, it can be a killer time of year to visit.

If you want to visit Uluru (Ayer's Rock), then August/Sep is the best time to hit the red centre. It's not too hot and if there has been rainfall, then it could have some great wildflowers to see.

September is also a great time to see wildflowers in Western Australia.

Hmmm.....I seem to be talking you into September. But if you suffer from hayfever, then come in March.

Well, I guess I need to start to figure out what we want to see. I figure the "big" sights are the Great Barrier Reef and Ayer's Rock. I just figured we would go to Melbourne and Sydney, but I'm sure Fran would like to see more things. What is there to see in Queensland?

The rest of your day sounds great. I enjoy the little shops over the big chains. If they had anything that fit me I would have probably bought a bunch!

Good suggestion re Mayan pyramids! Will have to check out the DCL cruise that stops there.

Glad DH got his boots! No photo? How disappointing! The moon was worth waiting for then! Oh when you fancy a pizza nothing else will do :-) yum. I have so many sweatshirts and windcheaters from places where I got cold! I note the most popular one I still see all over is the San Fran logo windcheater. It gets cold there! Me, Jo and my parents all bought them! I see folks wearing them in London, Florida, New York and think yep! That cold wind caught you by surprise when you went to San Fran also. I bet the makers of those coats make a killing!

So you went the other way on the 160. That would have been your surprise trip for your dad, right?

I'll have to google that route 149 and see the pics. They aren't showing up for me.

Sorry about your mom. Why do some parents do that to their kids?

Trust me I am a lot better off now...

These might work better...

Looked like a nice little town, too bad about the Pepsi in the pizza joint.

:rotfl2:

I love exploring small towns, you never know what you might find!

I'm shocked that there wasn't a pizza place on every corner. That seems to be the norm in every town in America. The place you did find was cute and the food looks delicious!

The town looks very pretty, but I am pretty sure I would not have found anything there either. I am a big city girl at heart. I can't believe that you had trouble finding pizza. All the food looked delicious though and very vegetarian friendly.

You have your priorities right. :thumbsup2

And tell your DH I know exactly how he felt.

What a charming little town. It looks like a nice place to spend a wet day.

It was nice just meandering around the shops. But it felt like I needed about 20 shops more. ;)

:scratchin Is this another one of those lost in translation things?

Hmm. Windcheater could be a windbreaker but it could also be a sweatshirt. In this case, I bought a sweatshirt.

Thanks Scott. I forgot to mention it before but I'm glad you're reading along. Thanks for subbing in. :flower3:

I can't say I know how the pizza tasted. DS scoffed it all down. :) But the sandwich was really tasty.

It looks like you had fun even in the rain

:welcome: Welcome! Both to the TR and also to the Dis. Nice to see another ANZAC on here.

It was a fun day; and more fun to come!

I could have done with another 20 stores on this day; but it was fine. :hippie:

If you want to see the Great Barrier Reef, you'll be heading to Queensland. Brisbane is the capital city in Queensland; but to see the GBR, you'll want to head towards Cairns for the Upper Reef; or towards the Whitsunday Islands for the Lower Reef. The Upper Reef is where everyone heads to. Around Cairns, there is also Port Douglas and the Daintree Rainforest.

I'll have to take a picture of the boots this weekend and post it. I hope I remember.

Thanks! I did google that route and saw some of the pictures. Stunning! That waterfall is amazing. I hope to get there someday.

:rotfl2:

DS did ask for a Coke. They had Pepsi instead. I don't know why. :confused3

There were places that sold pizza in the downtown stretch; only not for lunch. I guess it was a quiet day in Pagosa.

With my DH being vegetarian, we try to make sure we find somewhere that has a good range of options. The last thing I want is a grumpy, hungry DH on holiday. :goodvibes

There was lots of things in Goodman's. I did look but there was a group of about 6 women that took over the ladies part of the store. They were having a girl's only week in Pagosa and they were all over the place and noisy. I like to have my space and some quiet contemplation time. So, I let them enjoy and headed down the street instead.

....just leave me speechless!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Hmmm.....all of ya just might actually get me out and into Yosemite national park for 8 days next September after all....:scratchin

I love poking around smaller towns too. One of our faves in Aus in recent years was Goulburn. Your pics of all the treats reminds me that DD made homemade cherry pie with fresh cherries for the first time ever last weekend - it was delicious though a tad sweet so we noted on the recipe to cut back on the sugar next time. We are sadly finishing up the home-made lime marmalade DH brought back from his aunt in Esperance, WA after Xmas-it is legendary in his family and is not too sweet, not too tart-amazingly good made with limes from their trees. I am sad your road trip is almost over-have loved sharing the journey with you and your amazing photos -but WDW awaits!

Thanks. I love Yosemite. I hope you get there in September. Will you spend all 8 days there? Fantastic!

Welcome back, by the way. Looks like you had a great trip yourself.

I've always driven through Goulburn but never stopped. Hmmm. You got me thinking.

Oooh.....if you have the recipe for the cherry pie, send it to me.

And thank you for the idea!!! I have a lime tree in my garden. We have a few limes on it this year. I'm going to try making some lime marmalade. :thumbsup2

Loved the pics :)

Glad you're enjoying the pics.
