We are going up north for Thanksgiving. We will be in Fremont, Ohio this weekend for a few days to visit family before heading up to New York. Anyway, I grew up in Fremont but haven't been home in a really long time. I googled Children's Wonderland in Maumee. I remember this place from when I was young. I haven't been in over 20 years. I was just wondering if it would be worth the drive up to see it again. Also, the web says admission is $5 for an adult, $3 for a child. But realistically how much should I plan on spending? I remember making those wax/plastic mold things there. I don't know if there is anything else that would end up costing me money. I have an overly spoiled child and this is vacation. We won't be doing anything in New York other than visiting family so this is the only touristy thing we might do while up north. Also, any other suggestions on things to do? We will only be in the area for a few days. Please keep in mind I live in Florida so nothing outside. It is just too cold!

bumping in hopes of some info.

I have a BIL in Fremont but I've never been to the Children's Wonderland. DH's family is from Port Clinton. We've been to the zoo many times although never in the winter but love it. Last time we were there, they had expanded it and it was really nice.

My boyfriend is from Toledo. I can ask him when I see him this evening!

We almost decided to go to Toledo for Thanksgiving, but he has to be on call for work, so that negated that idea.

We will actually only be in Fremont for a few days. We are spending Thanksgiving in Bath, NY. But I couldn't go all the way up there and not see my family.

I'm not from Toledo, but I did live in Findlay for about 4 years. My oldest was born in Toledo hospital. This was about 10 years, but the zoo was very nice when we lived there.

Have a great trip!

KLINGER!!!! :cool1:

I cannot help you OP, as it has been YEARS....hmmm....22 to be exact since we lived in Toledo...actually we lived right outside in SYLVANIA. We absolutely loved Sylvania/Toledo. Yup, we went to the ZOO often as the kiddos were very small. We have great memories of Toledo, Ohio. :goodvibes

Have a save trip, OP. :thumbsup2

The last time we went to Children's Wonderland, we spent some money on pictures with Santa, the little train ride and concessions. Everything is very reasonably priced. They also have the machine with the wax figurines and those are only a few dollars also.

As for other things to do, I would suggest Cosi (science center), you can drive through christmas lights right on the other side of the river (across the street from the sports arena) or see the zoo christmas lights. Although we don't live in the area anymore, these are things we do when visiting family.

I am from TOledo born and raised,(moved to WI last year)...Honestly CW is ok, but I would spend the money and go to the Lights Before Christmas at the TOledo Zoo instead....CW USED to be awesome, but each year it has gotten less and less while the price has gotten higher (it used to be like $3 for adults with twice as much to see as there is now).

Honestly there really isn't much in Toledo to see anymore except the Zoo, the Art Museum and the Mud Hens (detroit tigers AAA team).

I live in Perrysburg and grew up in Maumee (suburbs--CW is in Maumee). I still take the kids to CW every year and they are 10, 13 and 16! I've gone a lot since I was small. I love the display with the raccoons all waiting to get into the bathroom.
Parts of it are run down, but they have been sprucing parts of it up every year. I think it's a lot visually and any kid say, 9 or younger who hasn't seen it yet will like it a lot.m It also really gets you into the holiday mood.
The wax machines are $1 each. The Santa pictures are reasonable compared to the mall. They also sell food but it's ballpark food--hot dogs, popcorn, etc.
COSI is closed. It will reopen next fall with a new name. The upside to CW over the zoo is you don't freeze.
I love the area, but the economy here stinks right now and the mayor of Toledo itself is a real nutjob.

I was born and raised in Toledo. I met my husband at a Mudhens game in NC. He was born in Toledo and moved with his family to Charlotte while in his teens. All of our family is still in Toledo.

We go home for the holidays every other year. We both have fond memories of Children's Wonderland and the Zoo. We make a point to go to both while we are there. Our children love it.

I know they used to do lights along the river. We would go there also.

We always head up to Greenfield Village/Henry Ford Museum. It's worth the trip. Tons of Christmas stuff there.

Have fun!!!
