I also posted this in the transportation section.

My family and I are from Toronto and we've booked the 4 night cruise on March 6th. To save $$ we booked our flight out of Buffalo on the morning of the cruise (arrival in Orlando @ 9:55 a.m.).

My question is, what's the weather like in Buffalo early March? What are the chances of a snow storm which will result in a flight cancellation (which will totally scew us up for the cruise)? I'm always watching the news and it seems like there's lots of snow storms forcing school and airports closures. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello!

I just moved to Kissimmee, FL from the Buffalo area, so I can answer your question. March is the worst month in Buffalo for freak storms. The last Blizzard hit in March and the ice storm came in March also. Buffalo is typically known for large amounts of snowfall in March because of the lake effect snow machine.

Have a back up plan just in case!

I second that , we live in Rochester, NY and March can be very tricky! I would definately fly out the night before!!!! Hotels in the Disney area can be as cheap as $35. IT would be terrible to miss your trip.

please think about getting a flight out the day before- even though i am not going till early may and there won't be any snow then - buffalo just has crazy and unpredictable weather...so i have decided to play it safe and fly out the day before

thurs last week we had 67 degree weather and i woke up to snow fri morn with temps in the low 20's- ya never know what you can get living in the snow belt

good luck:)

I'm from Rochester, NY and agree with everyone who has replied. Yesterday no snow; today 12" by the lake! March is very unpredictable! If you can't fly out the day before, can you get a hotel room by the airport night before? Just another suggestion.

I work for the airlines, not saying that I am a pilot. I have just seen more than my share of delays, cancellations. And the majority of these are due to small mechanical failures, or repairs. Sometimes the wait on a small piece that is needed can be lonnngg. That is not counting out the snow factor, ice, waiting to be de-iced...blah blah.

There are many threads on the board, about not taking the chance to miss your cruise, and fliying in the day of. Our first time we were scheduled to arrive the day of,thankfully after reading here we changed our flight to arrive the day before, we arrived, rested, without the worry of anything going wrong. The day we embarked we were so happy about arriving when we did that we enjoyed the first day much much more.

Did not mean to be pushy, just wanted to be realistic.

I live 15 mins. north of Buffalo. My vote is to change your flight to the day before. March is an unpredictable month. You can go anywhere from snow to ice to warm temps to ice to snow, and that could be within a one week period. If you can't change your flight, get insurance! Hope this helps!

I just have to say that I love that there are so many people from Upsate NY!!! I was born and raised in Rochester, lived in Buffalo and graduated from Buff State!! I know live in Virginia, but am still a true New Yorker!!!
Oh and be careful of those wicked March storms!! Everyone is right!!

keep an eye on the weather forcast by watching accuweather.com. I agree, I would fly out before hand.

Since you are already ticketed call the airline and ask what it would cost you to fly standby the night before. USAIR is charging us just $25/ticket to fly stanby .

Missed a cruise in the early 90's when flying out of Buffalo. Fog in Philly held us on the runway in Buffalo. We booked air through cruise line and were flown to first port, and consider ourselves lucky. Now we always go a day early. Delays can happen in BUF from snow but also at any connecting city. Be safe, start vacation day early and enjoy.
