Anyone freaked out that it will snow the day you leave?

Of course I worry about snow. I dont feel like I am worrying about enough so lets add a possible snow to cancel our flight to the list!! We leave in 28 days and DS is running a fever and has a sore throat tonight. I wonder how long it will take to run through our family of 5?! It always seems to be something. Worry, worry, worry.....no wonder I feel like I have an ulcer!! :rotfl:

Do I worry about snow the day we leave? EVERY MINUTE OF THE DAY! Back in 2003, we drove while my parents and my sister flew out of Boston. We drove through the blizzard but they got snowed in. They were supposed to have had a day in the parks before we got there but instead I picked them up at the airport! Please Mother Nature, no snow in Maine on December 4th :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

My mother and I used to go at the beginning of December and I always worried about it. I had a backup plan, if snow was forecasted, I would call a town car to pick us up. We needed it one time, before we left the house early in the morning I was out shoveling the sidewalk. All I kept thinking was "Florida, here I come!". The snow had stopped before we got to the airport, so we did not have a delay.

I guess I'm not the only one!

I think I have nightmares about it because I have been in a few situations where flights are cancelled or delayed due to weather. Boston really sucks that way and they will delay flights at the drop of a hat. My last WDW trip, my flight was delayed 4 hours and we ended up getting into the WL at 1am. When I was a teenager, my flight was cancelled due to snow and it was a total nightmare.

I don't worry about the snow around here in December...it's so rare as to be almost non-existent (I said ALMOST) that we have major snowstorms in this area at this time of year. Besides, I only book non-stops. I will never again do a layover if I have a choice.
Now, February is another story. Every year it's the same thing...a big newscast about a big storm coming up the east coast, and the first place the newsteam goes is to Logan to poke fun at all the Disney-bound travelers sleeping on the airport floors...

First time flying out of Buffalo in 2 weeks.

Buffalo is know to getting hit hard with the snow fall.
Hope all is clear

The Buffalo airport has only been closed for an entire 24 hours once. Just an FYI. :teeth:

Usually, the delays here are from planes not coming in from NY, Boston, Chicago, etc. They can't get us out if the planes don't come. :guilty:

Seriously though, the deicing and runway clearance at Buffalo is amazing. So no WORRIES!!! As long as it is just snow, you will get out of here on time. :thumbsup2

And we are traveling in Feb. We are doing nonstops because we are usually here in Buffalo watching everyone sleep at Logan and JFK and staring out the window at our snow-free lawn!!!! We refuse to fly into anywhere north of Atlanta on the coast in February. :rotfl: Those frickin nor'easters.

I am so freaked out it is going to snow the day we fly out. Living in Central New York and pretty close to the snow belt I am very concerned. This might be the first Christmas I am not wishing for lots of snow.

I worry about everything, so of course I worry about this! We live in Cincinnati, but fly out of Columbus because it is significantly cheaper. This is about a 90 minute drive for us. If it is snowy/icy, this is a pretty scary drive. I just pray for good weather and hope for the best. :wizard:

I live in Cincinnati as well. We are flying out of Cinti in January just for the reason of a snow possibility. I flew out of Dayton in April for the cost. But this time there was question. So of course I paid extra :confused3

It's happened to me already - snow on Disney departure day. But it's not the end of the world. What you need to do when the forecast says "blizzard" is go directly to your airline's website and read their cancellation/rebooking policy for that storm. They will generally say something like "can be rebooked at no cost though X day". Once you know that, contact Disney right away (Disney will allow changes without penalty if your airport is going to be closed), tell them your story and find out availability. Then rebook the flights and Disney hotels. It's a bit time consuming and frustrating, but it can be done.

A few years back, I got talken into a disney cruise, first time for wife and I. Daughter and SIL, both CM's got us all super rates and rooms with a veranda for the 7 nighter. Never been off the soil of the US let alone on a boat out to sea and its for late February. Never gave snow a thought before hand, really had enough issues with the experience than worry about mother nature. Told my daughter I might board or just stay at Port Caneral and wait for their return. Lo and behold a big snow storm hits the northeast and we're part of it. Amtrak is shut down, our way to Disney, and not sure when the rails will be cleared. Long story short, rails get cleared day before our departure, we board the train and see all the snow, Philly station was packed with snow and we head south and watch the snow melt away the further south we get. Needless to say, we made it, on time and I did get on the ship and had the best first cruise in my life, our room had and outside veranda just for my wife and I and or daughter and SIL had the suite right next to us. From now on, I'll never set up a vacation in the dead of winter.

Leaving snow to see sunshine and then returning to ice and snow is a real heart breaker. I keep telling my wife, if we move to Disney, you don't have to shovel sunshine!

newman, take a look back at the post from 2Princes2Princesses about Buffalo's airport... I was going to say the exact same for Syracuse. I think Hancock has only been closed once and it was mostly due to other flights not getting out of THEIR airports to come to Syracuse. I've flown out of SYR in the middle of snowstorm, no problem. They are pros at de-icing the planes and clearing the runways!

And remember, a lot of the snow here is lake effect. Once the plane clears that, it's usually smooth sailing higher up!

Have a great trip!

:thumbsup2

Hi over there in Syracuse!!!

Today is the 6 yr anniversary of the year we got BURIED in like 4 hours. As much as the snow annoys me, I have to say we are pretty nonchalant about it. We don't get worried until they close the MALL. :rotfl:

I am going on a cruise with my cousin in Jan and then to WDW in Feb. She told me I should bring my winter coat in case it gets to the 40's at night. I thought she was kidding. 40 in January would be great.

Another great thing about lake effect........although we may have 4 feet of snow coming down like crazy in the southtowns, the airport is probably dry as a bone.

Even the year we got pounded at Thanksgiving, my sister was flying to Paris and her flight was cancelled. Not the one from Buffalo. The one at JFK. :)

I have OCD and worry about EVERYTHING. But not snow. :thumbsup2

I won't be concerned til I see the forecast the week before!! We are staying in Milwaukee the night before our flight, so hopefully all will be well!!

You know, I said earlier that I don't get freaked out around here...just checked the 15-day accuweather forecast, and guess what they're predicting for the morning of my flight on 12/4? That's right....SNOW! But, it's 15 days out, and who knows at this point. No sense losing sleep over it, right? RIGHT???? AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!

Ha ha... today it was in the 40s here and I was wearing a fleece pullover. I won't wear a coat unless it's snowing, and even then I sometimes won't wear one until the snow is actually building up on my shoulders! :teeth:

Snow? What's a little snow on a runway!?! Pshaw!

We flew from Milwaukee to Orlando early last December and actually ran into a small snow issue. It was the first snowfall of the year so all we did was get to the airport earlier than usual. Our flight out was at 7:30, boarded on time. We watched them deice the plane before boarding and they deiced it again once we were all aboard. Place took off 20 minutes late, but landed on time in Orlando. I would not worry about snow especially if you have a early flight. On the way back we took the latest flight back and had no problems. The plane arrived from its previous flight 30 minutes late, but they had us boarded and out of the terminal within 10 minutes to get us off in time. They will do whatever they can to keep the entire day on schedule.

"C'mon and plow that thing!! Mickey is waiting for me!!!!" :teeth:

Last night was a perfect example of why I don't let myself worry about weather. Did it snow in Buffalo? Nope. It snowed in Orlando!! :)

I don't have enough Ativan to start obsessing about that. :rotfl:

Nice one! :rotfl2:

Seriously though, I can hardly believe it snowed in FL! Must be a sign that all the NY snowbirds have finally headed south!
