Anyone freaked out that it will snow the day you leave?

I always have this fear. Generally it doesn't snow much around here until late December but there is the chance of an early snow storm and a delayed/cancelled flight. I have a HDDR reservation for our arrival day, but I am checking the weather and if there is even the slightest chance of snow, I am cancelling.

I am worried about this. We leave in 17 days and it has already snowed once here-nothing that really stuck around but as it gets closer to December I get more worried. But I guess all that you can do is hope for the best. :thumbsup2

I worry about everything, so of course I worry about this! We live in Cincinnati, but fly out of Columbus because it is significantly cheaper. This is about a 90 minute drive for us. If it is snowy/icy, this is a pretty scary drive. I just pray for good weather and hope for the best. :wizard:

We leave Jan 1st, so of course I worry about snow. All we can do is leave home plenty early to get to the airport(about 20 minutes away under normal circumstances) if bad weather is in the forecast. Just have to hope for the best.

We fly out every year for President's week in Feburary from LGA to MCO. We have been "lucky" every year.

Last February, my DSI was supposed to fly out the Saturday before us, which the news was predicting a Huge Blizzard. My DSI called got a hotel reserved for the Friday night, & called the AA airline & asked if she could fly out the Friday before due to the Blizzard. AA gave them the OK. She was able to get her family of 4 out before 5 PM.

I later read on the Disney Boards transportation, that Delta & CO were also letting there passengers fly out the day before also, with no penalties.

Hope this helps.

I am TOTALLY freaked about possible snow! Or even rain and fog! The Philly airport was a mess yesterday with the rain and wind. Delayed flights and back-ups into this morning! And the ripple-effect up and down the east coast causes flight delays. I wanted the earliest flight but gave in to the 2nd flight of the day in order not to have a grouchy spouse!

No snow, no rain, no wind anywhere in the country for the entire winter please!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

DD13 and I leave in 12 days for our 3-day Wonder cruise and a few days at WDW and I worry a little even though it's early (although there have been years we've had a lot of snow in late November). And fog is my other worry, in January 05 our departure flight was canceled because MHT closed due to fog and it was 2 days before we could get another flight down and then we got stuck in Orlando after our cruise was over because of a major blizzard in the northeast, go figure!!

So I'm trying to think happy thoughts for all of us traveling in the next few weeks!! pixiedust:

yes i was thinking about that too....we have reservations to see La Nouba the night we arrive so we really can't be late! Here's hoping for NO SNOW in CT on 12/1!

Shockingly, I don't really worry about it - and I worry about pretty much everything I can think of - yeah, weather happens, and it happens a lot here, but I guess it happens whether or not I worry about it.

Actually, the one concession I make to weather is that I will never accept a layover of less than an hour. Well, that's a general rule of thumb for me, but especially true in winter. For major delays, an hour won't be enough, but for extra deicing and all, it's can make the difference between catching the connection and not.

Good luck and safe travels!

I don't worry about snow and leaving here, MSP is the best airport for never closing due to snow. It's the snowing and not having the driveway clear when we get home that I worry about. Last year we came home to 10 inches and had a lot of trouble getting in the house.

OMG...HE** yes, I am so freaked out....but I think I have said so many prayers hopefully it will be okay.

My DS#2 flew home(Boston) from the UK on 11/3 and flew back on 11/12 NO PROBLEMS.

Today DS#1 is flying to the UK to visit his bro and today's weather is awesome as well as the long-range forecast for 11/24 for DS' return from the UK to Boston.

AND THEN IT IS THE REST OF US flying on 12/23 to LONDON for the holidays....ahhhh....praying and praying and praying!!!

(btw: my DS attends the University of Glasgow hence all the traveling we are doing back and forth to the UK)!!!!

In Ct- I worry every year we go-always mid january....usually it all works out anyway- last year, we flew from orcester MA,and we drove up there (1 1/2 hours) in a snowstorm, but by the time it was ready to take off, the weather had cleared! That's a reason I like nonstop flights, stopping may mean a delay somewhere along the way due to weather, at least with a non stop, once you're going, you're going! :cool1:

I worry too - here in upstate NY we've had snow as early as Columbus day and as late as February. I've also done some advance planning - we're taking the SUV with 4 wheel drive instead of the car to the airport, parking it in the airport garage instead of the outside parking lots. If snow predicted for the day we leave, keeping DS out of school and contacting airline prior to see about getting an earlier flight.

Hello fellow Minnesotan! That must be why I don't worry about it either. I had that exact same thing happen to me, though it was about five years ago and in March. The worst is coming home that plow-mountain at the bottom of the driveway, I think.

With out a doubt. The 4 foot plowbank is the worst. :cool1:

First time flying out of Buffalo in 2 weeks.

Buffalo is know to getting hit hard with the snow fall.
Hope all is clear

Its always a concern for me. Several times, we barely escaped a snow storm leaving Toledo only for it to catchup to us at our layover in cincinnati or pittsburg. Fortunately we were able to take off with minimal delays. Atlanta, it seems, always have delays too. Lately, I have started booking nonstop flights out of Indy(cheaper) thinking, that if we can only get up in the air and headed south we would be home free. That way we would minimize the chances for weather related delays by not having a layover. I also think that a larger airport, despite more flights, would be better equiped to handle the snow. Of course my concern now is the 2 1/2 drive down to indy! oh well!

Atlanta probably has delays when it's meteorologically unaffected by snow because connecting planes (and to a lesser degree, passengers) may very likely be coming from somewhere that it IS snowing :)

To answer the OP: Nope, not particularly. I only fly a few times a year, but I've only been affected by snow twice. First time, it snowed all day in Boston but stopped by evening. My flight left about an hour or so late. Second time, coming back from Orlando with a connection in Raleigh-Durham and a pending snowstorm in Boston, Midway ended up cancelling all northbound flights from that hub so we ended up spending the night in nearby hotels (pays to be near the front of the booking line, to get the lowest-priced but decent hotel). Friend heading in the same direction the same day on a different airline were able to get on an earlier flight, so got home with no problem. Most airlines are as accommodating as possible with weather issues.

I went this past February and we prayed our flight wouldn't end up grounded due to snow--here in Boston....Well it snowed, and snowed and didn't let up canceling all flights on Sunday into Monday (day we were to leave) and miraculously our flight made it off the ground that morning ON TIME. I have no idea how or why we got that lucky (first helping of Pixie Dust) .
As with what PURTYPAT1 said (I am guessing her DSI was leaving the same weekend as I) Delta *who we flew* was offering us to go earlier in the event our may have been canceled. I didn't take that option since it would have been 2 days earlier! Hard to get $$ together for that event of finding a hotel , transportation (we used DME) food etc...We were there for 10 days so 12 would have felt pretty long.

Oh yeah, I worry! I'm in MA too and flying out of Boston on 12/15. Hoping/praying for no snow that day!
