My DD is almost 10 months old. Just wondering about others experience with early toilet training??

I have heard you can start really early and have it take years or wait until a child is 3 and it takes a day.
Good luck with whatever you decide. :goodvibes
I only have boys and they are usually slower than girls with this but they were just past their 3 bdays and wearing undies.

I agree, it's just all the longer that you have to clean up messes~~ Wait till they are capable and ready and it's usually pretty painless!

Any time a child goes to the bathroom under 18 months the parent is trained not the child. I did train early but the best I could get was around their second birthday. I used cloth so I was determined and they were not as comfortable in wet diapers so it was pretty easy, a week of accidents then we were good to go. Through the night was a different story though.

Everybody I have talked to who tried to start early...ended up very frustrated. I bought my son a potty seat when he turned 2. I just left it in the bathroom and never even really pushed him to use it...he just started using it on his own...in about a week's time or less he was completely trained...a couple months before he turned 3--which was fine by me. What didn't work for me was pull-ups, but every kid is different.;)

My older boys I tried a couple of times earlish (as in around 18 months, not 10 months) but it was obvious it wasn't going to happen so we put away the potty and waited. Both trained quickly and with minimal frustration for both of us at around 2.5. I said I wasn't even going to think about training my little one until 2.5 but at 19 months he starting to say "poo poo" right before he poops so we may try early with him since he seems to be making a connection. Not til after we are back from Disney though!

I know someone that put both her girls in pull-ups at 17-18 months.... long story short, the oldest girl wasn't actually potty trained till about 3 1/2 because of it - they say it as a game. My daughter was trained in less than a week because (I feel) I started around 2 - 2 1/2. The longer you wait the easier it is.... just don't wait till to long!

That's how it worked for us.We tried a few times starting at 18 months, but DS refused so we stopped trying and decided to let him tell us. Two days before his 3rd bday, he said Mommy I don't want my diaper anymore. We said OK and took it off. That was it. Period.
....and as a side note, we were on the road, lost somewhere in France driving to Disneyland Paris when he told us! You can't mess with the Disney Magic!

Well my oldest was about 4 when she completely potty trained (she had uti problems) my middle one said daddy I want to wear big girl pants and he explained that meant she would have to be a big girl. She has yet to have an accident. She was two at the time and she is now 5. My 2 yr old goes on the big girl potty except for pooping. I am in no hurry with her. Every child is different. They will let you know when the time is right. I don't think PT is for babies under 18 months. Its still hard for them to comprehend the whole diaper/pull-up/potty thing.

I think it depends on the kid, my oldest was completly day trained by 18 months, and most nights, but we did not take away the diapers at night until 2. She wanted to do it, and would tell you when she had to potty, everytime, there was an accident here and there, but not many.
My other two girls were trained at 23 and 25 months (and the 25 month one would of done it earlier, but we had a trip to disney, and I did not want to deal with training there, so the day we got home, the diapers were gone) Both my oldest were night trained at the same time as well.
I personally think you just don't make a big deal out of it, if they go, yah, then if not, so what. But, you have a girl (they train earlier, and easier, most of the time), and I personally don't think it will hurt to get the potty out and see what happens.
Plus it is SUMMER, nothing better than nakie potty training!!
H

I have 4 children. My daughter is the one that started early. She showed big interest at 10 months so I pulled out the potty on a whim. And sure enough she trained herself.
At her first birthday party my relatives couldn't believe it. (and it was hard to find underwear for her at her size- but once I did she LOVED wearing it)

The boys on the other hand- were 2. *my oldest was actually 3 by the time he got it- the other 2 got it right around the time they turned 2.

Good luck and it is always easier to try in the summer- Is she walking?

Other than being more convenient for a parent, how does early training benefit a child?

My mother had me potty trained by 11 months. :rolleyes1

Well, you are probably a genius then.::yes:: ::yes::
I was able to walk right after I was born......and eat solid food too. Yep, that's right...that's the ticket....right after I was born.:thumbsup2 :lmao:

if your baby is showing signs of being ready then I say go for it. BUT make sure that she is training, not you, otherwise you will end up frustrated. Good Luck what ever you choose, You know your child best.

Though I didn't start that early with either of my kids, I think the benefit is that the child is not sitting in their own waste. I know I wouldn't want to do that, so I figure my kids shouldn't either. So while I think potty training them in a day would be great, I think the sooner the better. And convenience wise, it is far easier to have a child in diapers than one who needs to use the potty at random intervals, when there may not be one nearby.

My daughter started training at 22.5 months and was fully trained, day and night, just before she turned 25 months.

My son is 21 months and just started 2 weeks ago and is doing great so far. I think he'll be accident free, at least daytime, within the next couple of weeks. I still have him in diapers overnight and will probably wait on that till we get back from our Disney trip next month, but we'll see how it goes.

One of my other reasons for starting young is that I feel it's so much easier if they just used to using the potty as a routine while they're young, before they turn into oppositional toddlers. I know that had we waited till my daughter was 3yo to start training, there would have been huge battles as she was well past that 'parent pleaser' stage by then. She is very strong-willed so I can only imagine how she would have reacted to a big change like that.

early potty training or elimination communication was not for me.

i think if i only had one child and had nothing to do all day but put them on the toilet every 30 minutes it would maybe be okay. it is the parent that gets trained. eventually it does become more habit for the child but not really until they are old enough to understand the bathroom (which is about the age when people would normally start PT'ing anyways).

although i understand the sitting in their own waste argument, most kids are changed really quickly and with disposables and even the newer cloth diapers out there, its not like its totally sitting on the childs skin. so unless diaper rash is a huge issue, the child can stand to be in a urinated/poopy diaper for a bit without problems.

i know theres lots of info and support out there for elimination communication though. just not for me. i know i read one story about how the mom couldnt believe the looks she got when she was "helping her 4 month old relieve themselves in the public bathroom sink". UMMM, because ITS GROSS. You dont PEE in the sink I dont care how old you are!!!

Slacker. I came out running not walking. I completed a triathalon at 3 months. It would have been 2 months but my Mom kept slowing me down. I won a Nobel Peace Prize at 5 months. By that time I had mastered 7 languages and created 2 more. I was offered the position of Poet Laureat at 6 months old but it conflicted with my singing career. I never had to eat solid food because I found a way to get nutrients from osmosis. I am beyond gifted. Mensa said I was too smart for them.;) :lmao: :rotfl2:

Seriously though at that young age the only person being trained is the parent. Wait until your child is ready and it will happen quickly. So far all my kids have been trained around 2.5 years old. Our 10 month old doesn't really have an interest in training although she does find the potty to be very fascinating.:rolleyes1
