Hey guys! Just wondered if anyone had flown with Monarch as my parents have decided to come on our next trip with us (the power of Disney! Lol!) but they can only get direct flight with Monarch that's in their price range and mum won't do indirect flights. Just wondered if they were any good?? TIA! :)

I have flown to FL with Monarch but it was MANY years ago. I think it was my 2nd or 3rd trip which was in the mid-90s so my experience probably won't be relevant today, but we found them very good.

OK thanks. Am sure most flights would be ok but you know you hear horror stories about companies like RyanAir so I just wanted to make sure they weren't booking a flight that might turn out to be dreadful :)

Ryanair is a budget airline. Monarch is a scheduled airline. They've been around for years. Not flown with them myself but if you do a search on old threads there have been some folk on here who have posted their experiences with them and from what I recall they are pretty much standard. Can't your folks get Thomson flights?

Thomson and Thomas Cook/Condor are also very reasonably priced so I would check them too!

It's been 20 years since I flew with monarch across the pond! But the planes were very basic on my last EU monarch flight in 2012.

Here's one of the most recent ones - dates back to last year

Hi we flew with them in may and they were fine we got meals which were standard plane food but the only complimentary drinks were tea and coffee with food everything else was charged, quite expensive as well! The plane was quite empty so we were able to spread out. It was fine fit the £213 pp we paid!!!

If you click on the arrow symbol in the quote it will take you back to the original thread

Monarch doesn't include baggage.
Thank you for the Thomas Cook info - I'll check it out.

Oh and apologies - I referred to them as a scheduled airline in my previous post, not charter

I want them to fly Thomson and offered to pay the remainder but my dad's typical stiff upper lip type and wouldn't have any of it! :( Ah well, will just have to dig my heels in and say that it's our holiday and if they want to sabotage it, they can at least have the good sense to fly Thomson and stop me worrying about them! Lol! :)

Once you are back and can sit down with them just tell Dad it's your way of repaying Mum for bailing you out with your rent while away. I think Monarch can be reasonable for a late, late booking but not such a great price when booking just a flight in advance.

As stated by the previous poster, I don't see a lot of scope for a monarch bargain unless they chance it for last minute. What dates are they going? Same as you? What are Thomson prices like for next summer?

OP, not sure what your exact dates are (was it late July to first week Aug? - sorry can't recall) but a quick few random searches for various dates covering 14 nights during that time is showing Thomson flights as consistently cheaper than Monarch. May be worth another look when you've recovered from your trip home

Already looked and they can fly Thomson slightly cheaper if they fly out 2 or 3 days after me which I'm going to point out will give them quality time together in a foreign climate for PROPER relaxing :)

Did you manage to book your resort after the trouble with the website?

Yes, managed that thanks. All booked and we staying at YC! Can't wait! My fiancée was going to pay for Lapland but just found out it going to be £9000 for 3 of us to go for 4 nights over Xmas period so decided to splash out on Oct half term wk Club level at GF instead!! :) Am a HAPPY bunny!! :) :) :)

Very nice!

So are you picking up YC for Summer and he's taking you all to GF for October week? Sounds like you've got it made :)

He's lovely like that :blush :) He's saving £3000 by taking us to GF for a week and making me the happiest woman like EVER so it works as much in his favour as does mine! Heehee! :)

Oh and yeh, am picking up the tab for YC coz that's just me and my DS going and I brought home £2500 in dollars to put towards it from most recent trip :)

Sounds good!

I'm so pleased that you eventually came round to shelving your previous approach of visiting a place once, ticking it off as 'done' and moving along. It works for many places in the world, but Disney is not one of them. You can safely book many trips there before you get to see and do the better part of what it has to offer. You'll probably enjoy it more with the time to concentrate on WDW exclusively

I have to admit, there's a FAB travel guide for WDW which I was SO glad I read before I went! It made it SO much more interesting for me and made me see just how much MAGIC there is to Disney. It's easy to think of Disney as some MASSIVE theme park with Mickey Mouse & the gang but it's SO much MORE than that! Even down to the paving stones! Have you noticed they have Mortimer & Co on them?? Walt Disney was originally going to call Mickey Mouse Mortimer! :)

Can you share the name of the travel guide.... it sounds like the sort of read my hubby would like!;)

It's called "The Hidden Magic of Disneyworld" and you can pick up a copy on Amazon for about a fiver (think mine was £6.99 incl postage) :)
