We want to take our hard sided cooler on our next trip and just curious if anyone has done this?? Do you put it in checked luggage??? If you carry it on do you fill it up??? I don't even know if it will fit overhead. I am just taking a small to med sized one, not the big ones.

We are flying SW if that matters??

Thank you

Kim

Hello
My husband goes fishing in FL almost every year, and checks in (a Huge!) hard sided cooler. He puts his duffle bag in it on the way down

I know that you can't have ice in it, and be careful of the weight and size. His is actually a tiny bit bigger than allowed, about an inch or two, but he had no trouble checking it in.

Not sure about bringing it as a carry-on. (hope that helps!)

The only kind that will be small enough to fit upright as a carryon will have to fit under the seat, which means that you are talking about the size you see construction workers using to carry lunch. If it is bigger than that, you would have to check it.

No ice is allowed in checked baggage, and you should also avoid glass containers. Don't check perishables.

We check a Wheelie-Cool every time we are going to the beach on our trip; we fill it with beach towels and other such bulky items for the flights. You can put packaged dry foods in it, too, or canned/plastic bottled liquids if the seals are still intact.

I can't think of any hard sided coolers small enough to carry on, except those designed to hold an individual lunch. I would definately try and protect it by putting in a box or in a duffle (as someone has suggested).

we brought a pretty nice sized hard sided cooler home from wdw w/us after hurricane francis (glad we had the forethought to pick one up at walmart a few days before HF hit!) and had no problem... it was stuffed w/some snack food and souvies... oh, and we flew SWA :)
