Has anyone flown recently from manchester to chicargo with bmi and then with TED to MCO. all the flights were booked through bmi. A few of you said in the past baggage allowance was down to 23kgs with TED. I have emailed Bmi and they keep saying its 32 kgs all the way on my booking. I know i can take two cases but i use samsonites. its is very diffucult to keep them below about 27 kgs without leaving them half empty. anyone had recent travels with bmi and united i would appreciate any advise.

Now starting to panic only two days to go......then i get a surge of yipee.

I have used TED from IAD to MCO,- its Uniteds lowcost carrier, and its just like any other airline really, drinks were free but you had to pay for food, Americans defination of carry on is a little odd- had people with massive bags cases etc on the plane. Legroom was like a standard charter airline, and the flight was less than the 2 hours they said it would be.

Normally if you are through ticketed by BMI than the higher baggage allowence will apply to all of your flight, its only if they are on seperate bookings will you have problems.

You SHOULD be fine with 32kg (if that is BMIs allowance). Providing you are flying on the same day, and preferably on the same itinerary/ticket, the "international" luggage allowance SHOULD apply... although there seems to be a lot of change/unrest regarding baggage allowances at the moment... doesn't make life as a passenger easy... :furious:

If you can get it in writing (either from their website or an email from them) from BMI, then that would be a good idea. You could show it to TED if there are any problems... if TED still charge you excess baggage, you could keep the receipt and submit a claim to BMI...

Boo

Let us know how you went on when you get back. We go exactly the same route in just over 3 weeks.
Hope the BMI to Chicago is as good as the one to Washington we took a couple of years back. We have flown with all transatlantic carriers and BMI beats them all.

Lisa, all I can say is what I've mentioned before. At MCO our cases were weighed and we had to pay over 23 kg. Having said that I agree with gavvy, you can almost carry an elephant in your carry on with no problem :teeth:
Just get a maximum size carry on and you should be fine ;)

Below wording is from BMI website, might be worth ringing them if you are over 23kg.
We have used connections numerous times with transatlantic limits and never a problem.
jjpenguin Is the limit 23kg per bag and 2 bags per person or 23kg total?
Transatlantic you can take 2 x 32kg per person so anyone taking maximum luggage could be in for a shock if it is worked on weight.

I will be getting all my paperwork out tonight and checking small print.

"If you are travelling on non-bmi operated (codeshare) flights, or connecting to a codeshare flight, excess baggage charges will apply and are calculated on an individual route basis - please contact our reservations centre on 0870 6070 555 for advice."

Edit: Its OK I just found it on their site
"You can check up to two bags per passenger free of charge, as long as the bags weigh less than 50 lbs. and meet our size requirements"
Also they have a 62" rule "The maximum size of each checked bag is 62 inches/158cm (length + width + height).

I used BMI/Ted in October last year. in the weeks prior to our trip there was a change in baggage allowance on TED airlines but after speaking to BMI i was assured that the BMI luggage allowance would be fine on the Ted leg of the trip and it was .. we had no probs whatsoever..

I was a tad concerned about the TED leg as the year befor we did the second leg on an original United flight ..

well i was very impressed with TED airlines and we even had tv on the way down (which we didn't have the year befor :) and I just love listening to air traffic control on one of the radio channels ..

BMI changed their policy recently and as an 'enhancement' they will not interline your baggage - i.e. you have to recheck your bags at Chicago - this means you have to comply with TED's allowance.

I have flown with TED for some short journeys and they are OK - not great but OK.
