I have an audition for another production of Romeo and Juliet. I am between two monologues, and I just wanted some outside opinion. Isabella's monologue might be too much of a mature theme...but it is super dramatic. I just can't decide.

ISABELLA in Measure for Measure

To whom should I complain? Did I tell this,
Who would believe me? O perilous mouths,
That bear in them one and the self-same tongue,
Either of condemnation or approof;
Bidding the law make court'sy to their will:
Hooking both right and wrong to the appetite,
To follow as it draws! I'll to my brother:
Though he hath fallen by prompture of the blood,
Yet hath he in him such a mind of honour.
That, had he twenty heads to tender down
On twenty bloody blocks, he'ld yield them up,
Before his sister should her body stoop
To such abhorr'd pollution.
Then, Isabel, live chaste, and, brother, die:
More than our brother is our chastity.
I'll tell him yet of Angelo's request,
And fit his mind to death, for his soul's rest.

or

MIRANDA in The Tempest

If by your art, my dearest father, you have
Put the wild waters in this roar, allay them.
The sky, it seems, would pour down stinking pitch,
But that the sea, mounting to the welkin's cheek,
Dashes the fire out. O, I have suffered
With those that I saw suffer: a brave vessel,
Who had, no doubt, some noble creature in her,
Dash'd all to pieces. O, the cry did knock
Against my very heart. Poor souls, they perish'd.
Had I been any god of power, I would
Have sunk the sea within the earth or ere
It should the good ship so have swallow'd and
The fraughting souls within her.

Well i would say do the scene that you think will make the casting crew go " wow that girl's got talent!" but if i was doing a scene i would choose the Isabella one because this year in English we read the Tempest and it was not one of my favorite Shakespear plays..... it was kinda weird for me

Break a leg with your audition!!

P.S. If you pick the longer scene it will show that you are advanced enough to do a hard monologue:)

If I were you I would definitley do Isabella's because it's alot more dramatic and you can definitley impress with that one!!

Break a leg!

My gut tells me to go with Isabella's. I geuss its just the mature content that has me wondering. But hey, Im an adult, this if for a touring cast, really thats the monologue thats gonna get me noticed. Thanks guys, a little reasurrence goes a long way.

I cant read shakespeare very well >.<

xDD. But I say whichever one has the more old english, and the one thats harder, so the people can see how good you are at saying those sort of things =)

isabella's.
it'll make more of an impact, and trust me, drama competitions/auditions love that when a student can capture an audience by (for once) being serious. and because it is longer, they'll have the chance to hear you for a longer amount of time. if your gut is telling you that one, than i wouldn't go against it. :] break a leg!
