Anyone familiar with Heathrow Airport?

DS and I are flying from Italy to the US with a stop in Heathrow and I am curious about making our connection. We (myself and my 7 year old) will be flying on British Airways, but the terminals seem to be far apart and I am worried we won't have enough time to connect. Going is not a big issue as we will have 4 hours in between flights, however, on the way back we land at terminal 4 at 6:35 a.m. (provided we are ontime) and then our next flight departs from terminal 1 one hour and 15 min. later at 7:50 a.m. In a diagram that I was looking at of Heathrow, it appears terminal 4 is separate from the other 3 terminals and I wondered how long it would take to go from terminal 4 to terminal 1 and if transport is by walking or by shuttle.

I love BA and Heathrow. Terminal 4 is seperate as you said and there are shuttles to take you back and forth. Depending on how busy it is you should expect about five minute shuttle ride. (It has been several years but that's what I remember.) We missed our connection on the way from PHL to Moscow but that was due to our plane being late for take-off. You will probably have to rush a little but just being prepared help. Also, call BA and ask them what they think and have a back-up just in case. If something happens you miss the connection they are very good at offering several alternatives. Good luck and have a safe trip home!!
