My daughter will be studying in Dublin next winter. I want to help her find a place to live near Trinity College. I know very little about Dublin and would appreciate any advice regarding safe neighbourhoods close to the campus. I don't think she will be able to live in residence due to limited availability. Any advice would be much appreciated.

How close to campus would she like to be trinity college is in Dublin city centre. Plenty of apartments around that area drumcondra is a nice area and is a small bus ride away. You will find plenty of apartments in the Dublin 1 area but might be a bit pricey. Daft.ie is a good place to look for rentals. I will get back to
You later with other places just going to get my twins ready for bed :).

Here are some areas that would be close by some walking distance and some would be a bus, dart(train) or laus ride away. Whitehall, Drumcondra, Fairview, Crumlin, Harold's cross, Rathgar, Rathmines, Glasnevin, Ranelagh, Portobello, ChristChurch, Ringsend, Donnycarney,Marino, Rialto, Ballsbridge, Terenure, Sandymount. You could look into the distance they are from trinity and decide from there. They are all in the dublin area all in nice areas.

Thanks so much for your reply. It's much appreciated. I have twins too but mine are turning 18 this week.
I heard that Dublin 1 is not safe but not sure about the reliability of the source.

Dublin 1 is safe enough it's like everywhere you just need your whits about you :). It's the main part of the city so it's busy. I live in dublin and always felt safe but it's no different to me as I'm use to it. My twins are 21 months now they grow so fast :(. Keeping me busy as I'm potty training at the moment. Any other questions just ask will help you out as much as I can.

Edit: there is a couple of places I'd avoid at night time like tolbot street, and around by Connolly station and the east wall area but that's just me others possibly felt safe around those areas.

like irisheyes123 said, its no different to any other city. i am from belfast but love going to Dublin the atmosphere there is fantastic and always plenty going on, sorry cannot help with places to stay, but my DD17 is in Kildare and travels home alone from there on buses without any probs

irisheyes123 and rpbert,
Thanks so much for your replies. I'd like my daughter to live close to the campus. She really doesn't want me to be involved in helping to find a place for her to live but because we're not familiar with Dublin and it's so far from home, I can't help myself.
Irisheyes123, I know how tired you must be having twins but they do grow up so fast. Are your twins boy, girl? Mine are boys and they'll be off to university in the fall.

You are welcome! I totally understand its hard for a parent not to help or be worried. My twins are boy/girl, it must be crazy hectic with both off to university and your daughter going abroad to study.

Thanks again irisheyes123. If it's okay, I may PM you if I have further questions about specific areas in the city.

While I do not live in Dublin ( Cork ) as pointed out

Trinity College IS IN the centre of the City.

There must be a " Students Union " & Accommodation Office who could help you with advice .

Woodview,
I will be contacting the school but I have heard from others that the housing
office really isn't much help. The school doesn't offer residences to exchange students as there is limited accommodations and students are pretty much on their own in finding their own place. That's why I thought I'd check with the dis community to see what areas would be good areas to look into.

Hi Jba2

I'm also in Dublin and just stumbled across this. Feel free to ask and I'll do my best to help. Love Toronto by the way :cool1:
