Anyone familiar with downtown Milwaukee?

Hi,

My college age son and friends are going to stay at a hotel in dt Milwaukee next week for the game fair convention..

I am looking for recommendation for decent, but not too pricey restaurants in the area.

Also, any must see's and must do's for them?

One of my favorite is Turner's. I believe it is or was an athletic club, and they have an awesome Friday night fish fry as well as a great menu. Not real pricy either. I have also eaten at a great Thai restaurant downtown, but for the life of me I can't remember its name. It also was quite reasonable. Then you have the big name German restaurants like Mader's and Karl Ratzch's. Been a long time since I have been to either of those.

Water Street Brewery and Brew City BBQ are both excellent and inexpensive. Also parking is easy for both. Enjoy the gaming convention, we have had an excellent time at it in the past!

Their are alot of good Rest./taverns in the area called Water Street. Its only a couple of blocks away and we always like Water St. Brewery. They have good beer made on site and good sandwhichs/excellant friday fish fry and great flowered onion!!! Their is also a Hooters downtown which any colloge kid to enjoy. In the water St area their are alot of fidderent choices and not as expensive as finer dining places. Also good is Rock Bottom Brewery.
As for things to do in the area the Zoo is very good if they like animals. Miller Beer offers free tours of the plant with a couple of free beers at the end. The Harley Davidson plant use to offer tours but dont know if they still do so it might be worth a call. Their is a I-max movie theater downtown as well as a Musuem. Shopping downtown sucks!!! So if they like shopping they will have to travel a bit to either SouthRidge or Mayfair mall. Also a Art Museum downtowm and baseball if the Brewers are in town.

I've got to say, if they are college age... WATER STREET!!! They will love it. Tons of good food/cheap food/beer and eye candy if you know what I mean.

I think our state fair is still going on while they are here. Also reasonable and not far from downtown AT ALL. They'd probably really enjoy that.

Hope they have fun in this great town of ours!

All of the previous suggestions have been great, Water Street is close to the Midwest Express center (which I assume is where the convention is) and has a ton of great eateries.

A few favorites here in the office are Rudys Mexican, Rock Bottom Brewery and Milwaukee Ale House. This last one is a little further away, but always has live bands and great brew. If they tire of the places right there on Water Street (which I doubt) this may be a good idea.

Of course, if they want to spend some time at a Water Park, the Hilton has an indoor water park that they can cough a little $$ up for and spend some time at. My DD and her friends love to go there...

They'll have a good time, I'm sure!
