Anyone familiar with American Airlines?

We will be flying American Airlines and wondered how their food for purchase is. Has the food improved at all? How much does lunch cost and are drinks separate as well?

I'm carrying my own breakfast on the way to Orlando but will probably have to purchase lunch on our way back home (or does MCO have much better food that I should purchase before boarding?)

we flew american from ny to seattle last summer and were pleasantly surprised w/the food offerings...

we had both the "meals" (turkey wrap sandwich w/brie and craisins and lettuce one way and a ham and swiss sandwich the return flight) and the snack box (nachos w/a little cup of cheese to dip and salsa)... i think the meal came w/cookies and a beef jerky and something else... all of it was quite enjoyable and even my picky one (ds) at the turkey and ham off the wraps w/minimal complaint!

another A+ for american in my book is that they have peanut free flights... which is important to us 'cause ds has severe allergies... also, please know that they will ask you to refrain from eating any nut products (i.e. pbj, snickers, trail mix, etc) if there is a nut-allergic person on board, so be prepared to not eat if that's all you have!

last but not least... we were not impressed w/the food in MCO... mcd's and sabarros (i think) and some fruit smoothie/yogurt stand... i would say the food american sold was better! :)

Thanks for your input; it's a relief that AA's food is pretty good since the last time I flew them was many years ago!

I presume that you are coming from Hawaii. We just took an AA short hop FLL-LGA booked at 3 hours. It was a 2:50 fligth and all they sold was a snack box which I think no one bought. We ate in the hotel at the airport a few years ago and the food was very good. They did package food to go then. We always bring food to eat, I never presume that airline food will be good. With the exception of SONG who has excellent food for purchase, most carrier are adaquate to poor.

They pass out free soft drinks and sell wine, beer and liquor. We tried their sandwiches once, they were o.k.; then we chose to pack a couple of sandwiches, pieces of fruit and snacks in a small collapsable cooler that we put in our carry on bag. No Big Deal; we do this on the way down and back and it works so good we do it all the time.
Good luck,
Joe
