I am flying in on a smaller commuter plane w/ United Express and connecting w/ a regular United flight. Does anyone know if they would share the same terminal? I know at LAX you have to take a shuttle over from the commuter plane terminal to the regular terminal.

From the terminal map on thier website, IAD looks big and it seems like you have to take a shuttle from one terminal to another, no connecting walkways :confused3,

I have a 50 minute window between flights, just wondering if it will be tight.

Thanks for any help

We've done that a few times with United and you stay within the same terminal. I think it was C and D. It just one long corridor with gates and some fast food, shops etc. You actually stay within security. We were coming in from Halifax, Nova Scotia and changing planes to go to Orlando. We also only had an hour and it was no problem.

We did this once a few years ago and went from a larger plane to a smaller commuter plane and had to take a bus out on the tarmac to load onto the smaller plane for the remainder of our flight. You don't have to switch terminals though.

Generally speaking, you WILL need to change terminals. But you shouldn't stress about it, its really a quick process.

Most--not all, but most--United Express flights now operate from Concourse A--these are the formerly Atlantic Coast/Independence Air gates. They have been able to consolidate their ERJ/CRJ flights over there. Although there are technically 6 gates there, you should be aware that multiple flights leave from each gate at the same time--they can park 4-6 aircraft per "gate" as they are not jetbridges. However, you don't need to take a bus or anything to get to the terminal from your aircraft--you walk down mobile stairs right into a covered walkway into the terminal.

The mobile lounges move back and forth between terminals every 5 minutes or so, and it really is no big deal however, You walk to the center of the concourse and hop on the appropriate lounge--either Concourse C or Concourse D.

Here's a map of UAL gates at IAD.

I connected from a mainline jet to RJ earlier this year. I had to use the bus to get over to the commuter terminal for the RJ. They move quick, 50 minutes should be OK. I came off an international flight, went through customs and made it to A pretty quick, I can't remember what my connecting time was. When you get to A, sit close to your gate. It is very crowded & noisy and can sometimes be hard to hear the boarding announcements.

It appears my information for Dulles connections is a bit outdated, my apologies. I would defer to the others with more recent experience. Good luck.
