This forum is becomming the next realtor.com:p DH has a nibble on a job there, and while I am trying not to get my hopes up, I know NOTHING about N.C. Other than it puts us MUCH closer to Florida and has palm trees near the coast! We have the basics, but initial interview is going to be in OH at another division, so we are very curious for a human point of view...some of the crime rates scared me, but I don't want to make any quick judgements. Any helpers out there?
p.s. I jhave been sending DH'S resume across the country so I will probably be asking about a LOT of areas...please bear with me;)
TIA
Pam

Sorry, no knowledge of NC :( Just thought I would bump this up for you.

It's a college town with a lot of bars and a couple of military bases nearby.

Good luck with the job.:)

Greenville, NC is in the eastern part of North Carolina. my nephew is in college at ECU in Greenville--he says it is hot and rains alot, but he still loves school. The town is divided along economic lines--people employed by the university--professors. etc, with a fairly large population of blue color workers. As a native of NC, I obviously love the area--especially in the center of the state--equal distance to the beach and to the mountains.

North Carolina is one of the fastest growing states in the nation. With a moderate climate and relatively low cost of living, it is becoming a very attractive place to relocate. You have the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains on one end and the Atlantic Ocean on the other -- lots of nearby vacation options. Higher education is outstanding -- if your child can get accepted, he/she can go to a school often listed in the top 25 in the nation (UNC-Chapel Hill) or a top technically oriented school (N.C. State University) for about $10,000 a year for everything. There also are other good public universities and some very prestigious private ones (Duke, Wake Forest, Davidson). Public schools, on the other hand, are uneven b/c much of the funding/control comes from the local district -- some are very good and others are mediocre. We are a state that has gone overboard on standardized testing, however, IMO. I've lived here all my life and can't imagine going anywhere else. I will have to say, however, that eastern North Carolina is not the pretty part. As a college town (East Carolina University), Greenville is probably a good place to live. It has a reputation of having good medical care, and I would think it likely also has good schools.

Between DH and I, we have lived in 3 countries and many, many states and picked Greenville, NC as our favorite! We're both NC natives, and have lived all over, but Greenville felt most like home. We have a small sailboat, and are close enough to the water for day trips, ECU is great:cool: , we're in a great school district, and the area is really growing. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

P.S>I think eastern NC has some of the prettiest parts!;)

Rexfan -- I didn't mean to insult your part of the state! I admit to being partial to the western part of the state, especially the mountains. I've not lived east of Raleigh, though, and have mostly driven through eastern North Carolina on the way to the Outer Banks (which is wonderful). My son did spend a month at ECU for a math and science program a couple summers ago, so I've spent a couple nights in the Greenville Hampton Inn.

Well, DH has had 3 phone interviews w'the co., but they called this a.m. to post-pone the one in Ohio until late next week or early the following week because one of the main guys needs to be out of town on work related stuff. I know that it's probably a fact, but I see a red flag. In the past we have run into this sort of thing when a co. is waiting to see if a candidate is going to accept, if not then they have choice #2,3,4 etc. on stand-by so to say. Also the relo pkg. is more like a sign on bonus...not much assistance, but we would still consider it. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the interview takes place, but being cautious all the same.
Thanks for the positive comments on the area...glad to hear about the good school remarks.
Have a great day!
Pam
