we have reservations at Hojo and they said we will need to check out halfway through the trip and then check back in to a different room.

My problem with this is that
1. we have to go back to the room to check out by noon
2. we have 4 hours before we can check back in to the new room...do we have to wait there for 4 hours?? that's a lot of time away from our park time.

Anyone ever deal with this? How did it work out?

I've never had that specific problem, but we did switch rooms during a stay at the PPH. We went for our honeymoon and they upgraded us to a room with a beautiful view of DCA, but we were expecting some friends to come join us about halfway through and they would need to put us in a different room to accomodate all of us. They asked us to make sure we had all our luggage packed up the day of the switch and then they moved everything for us to the new room while we were at the park. Not sure if that helps, but that was my experience.

I've never had that experience, either...nor have I heard of being required to switch rooms unless some unforseen circumstance made it necessary (ie: a friend of mine was staying in a hotel once & something was wrong with the plumbing in the room above her room which caused the ceiling to leak...totally gross ...but an understandable reason for switching rooms!).

I'll probably get flamed for this (HOJO's is much beloved here on the Disboards...I've only ever had good experiences with them, but my last stay there was 2 years ago), but if it were I in your situation...I'd be making reservations at another hotel, ASAP. That's alot of time to be out of the Park on your vacation for no reason other than to switch rooms.

I'm curious about how this particular arrangement came about. Are you switching room types or something? If I had just reserved a regular room and they told me that after I made the reservation, I would see about them taking care of it. Perhaps they could have you bring your luggage down when you check out and they move it into your new room for you, so you could stay at the park until after check-in (perhaps they can even check you in early). Heck, even if it was at my request, I think I would still ask and see what they could do for me (and plan on an extra tip for the service).

Check out on your way to the parks in the morning and have them store your luggage. Either take a break during the day to check in around 4 or when you check out in the morning ask them if you can "check in" then, even if the room isn't ready, and when you get back later in the day go to the front desk to get your new key and luggage and head to your new room. I have "checked in" really early at serveral hotels around DL and if the room isn't ready they just let me know to stop by the front desk after the official check in time to get the key. I'm not 100% that Hojo can store your luggage, we always drive so we just leave it in the car, but it is a fairly common need so I would think they could.

Yes Leash is right, if you do have to do this (and we've done it other hotels but not the HoJo) have your stuff ready to go in the morning. We have had to do this twice at the Peacock Suites, they have us a sign a waiver (which we refused to do last time, we were really upset we had to switch rooms a second time, we wanted them to just give us the bigger room our entire stay, which other hotels would do but not the PS) to move our stuff, we had a bell cart in the room, we loaded our stuff onto the cart and left in the morning, when we got back that evening our stuff was in our new room. As I said, this was the 2nd time we had done this there, our other option was to put everything in our car and unload it again when we came back, which we did not want to do! So we just had them switch it.
At the HoJo we have checked in early and they have offered to hold our stuff in their locked room. We haven't needed to accept but if we did we wouldn't worry about it. :)

we aren't switching room types. We had a couple of reservations (we were going to split the stay up into 2 days so we could visit san diego for a few days) but then we decided to stay in Anaheim and i asked them to combine the reservations.

That's when they said they didn't have my room type (standard 2 queen) for the whole stay and that they would do standard oversized doubles for the first portion and then 2 queens for the remainder. This was about a month ago.

I called today and asked if they could be all in one room so we didn't have to do this and they said that they are unable to change it (i thought if i waited till closer, maybe some rooms would have opened up)

It's frustrating because with 2 small children and a 9 night stay, we have a LOT of stuff and to have to pack it all up and move in the middle just stinks.

Not sure if I have any other choice though. We are staying with the ent rate so I can't justify going to another hotel (plus I love the hojo from our last stay)

Hopefully I can do what Leash suggested and it won't be too much of an issue...still stinks to have to pack everything back up.

thanks!
