Anyone ever work for the US Census?

i got a call today to be a crew leader/trainer

I took the exam in November, 2009 and received a perfect score and have not received a call.

I believe they are only doing call backs right now for crew leaders the bulk of the new hire should be in march

I was hired earlier this year and lasted about an hour! HA I went to the training and they were reading every word to us I knew I could not stand 40 hours of that so I said I was sorry that I didn't feel well and I had to leave. I could have had the paper work fill out in 30 minutes and they were going to take 8 hours!!! Plus a couple of months later a census worker was found murdered about 30 miles from here he had FED on his chest and was hanging from a tree. Everybody thinks he seen something he was not suppose to or he came upon someones meth lab. I really did not think about it being dangerous where I live, maybe the inner city but not rural area of KY. I know drugs are bad here but I wouldn't even know what I was looking at if I did walk up on something!

I worked for the Census in 2000 and could have been a supervisor but I needed to call the recruiter back to let him know if I could attend the training and when I called back to accept they gave the job away. I ended up being an enumerator which was ok but I could have easily done the crew leader job. The pay in 2000 was $13+ in California and now it is even higher and very competative.

The experience as an enumerator opened a whole world for me and I ended up making that type of work my career. I work for norc.org as a manager now and they do the same type of work but on a year round basis.(The census does too) The hours are flexible and you work from home. I am currently unemployed so this could be great way to make some money. I just worry about going to stranger's houses. As a 20 something girl that doesn't seem the safest since they say you work a lot in the evenings. I live in a small town that seems safe, but you never know whos out there these days.

FYI, the poor man actually committed suicide. He staged his death to look like a homicide so his son could collect on his life insurance. It is just really, really sad.

I got a call on Sunday asking if I was interested, but I said no way to going to houses again as I had to get stitches in my tuckus from a dog bite when I did the mapspotting phases lol. I told him to keep me on file if any desk jobs came up. But they are calling here in Montana anyways.

Well apparently they are calling back here in alabama, but i guess i not up there on the computer data base. I passed the supervisor test and missed 1 on the other test, but no luck.

Well i am alabama, and they are calling back, just not me. They said I HAVEN'T BEEN PICK ED BY THE COMPUTER YET. i passed both test with high grades.

Haven't heard anything here in CA yet.

Did see on the news this a.m. that the Census officially started today-they counted someone in Alaska first. (by dog sled-I wonder if they still get mileage? )
