I had one for years at the bank-because I was an employee and it was free. Then when I left the bank- I refused to pay $35 a year to have one and I bought 2 sentry safe boxes. Just make sure if she buys her own, she stashes them in a great place that can't be found or they are useless, even if they are locked- they are portable.

Are you talking about the kind to keep your key in that hang on the door? My DH uses them all the time for his rental houses, and we also have one on our front door at home. We've neve experienced any problems w/ them, security wise. Sometimes people have trouble getting the key back in, though....

The term I am thinking of is safety deposit box. A box in a bank vault opened by two keys one held by the bank and one held by the customer.
Is this what you are talking about?

Didn't Al Gore use a "lockbox"?
hmmm...I didn't realize the bank had a set of keyes. She said the teller told her that they (the bank) could not open the box because they don't have any keyes.![]()
They don't have a "set" of keys. It requires that you turn your key at the same time they turn their key. They cannot open your box without you and vice-versa.

My bank does not have a key for my safe deposit box. We have 2 keys one for me and one for DH. You have to have your hand scanned before you can enter the room. I guess if DH and I were to lose our keys the bank could do something about it.
