Anyone ever upgrade to BUSINESS CLASS MSP-MKE on Airtran?

Got an email from Airtran yesterday.......

Dear Mr. dudspizza,
In response to your e-mail, the fee to upgrade to business class depends on the length of the flight. The fee can range from $49-$129. The fee from Minneapolis to Milwaukee is $49 and the fee from Milwaukee to Orlando is $69. Total cost of the upgrade for both legs would be $118. You can upgrade your flight twenty-four hours before your scheduled departure by checking in on our website and pay the fee to upgrade to business class.

It is SUCH a short flight, it is one Airtran flight that I do that I never upgrade on. But to get the free luggage, I guess you'd have to do the mso/mke leg and not just the mke/mco leg of the trip.

The plan would be to upgrade to business class for the MSP-MKE leg just so 3 people could get a "taste" of a nicer seat. This is how I look at it.

2 Checked bags = $40
Original Seat Fee = $6
Total $46

Upgrade cost MSP-MKE $49

Total net cost to upgrade is $3. Sounds like a no brainer to me. We have 9 people going, so would look to upgrade to 3 people, get 6 free bags and let 3 of the 4 adults enjoy 45 minutes in business class.

Airtran customer service has told me I can just upgrade the first leg of the flight and the luggage would be free for both legs of the flight......

I didn't know that you could upgrade for only one leg of the flight but get the 2 free luggage items for the entire trip. That's good to know if I ever have to do a flight through Atlanta again instead of non-stop.

You can and I have! The business class really isn't all that different from the good old catle class though. But, for the free bags it's worth it for us!

I upgrade to Business class all the time between MKE and MCO but that's a non-stop flight so I don't have to worry about two upgrade fees. I think it is very different from the good old cattle class. The seats are much more comfy, IMHO.
