Anyone ever try Costco for eyeglasses?

Hi :wave2:

The sales folks at our local Costco have won our lifelong business because they are a no pressure sales team.

3 different local eye doctor's offices have turned me over to a "helper" after my exam. These guys should be selling cars - super high pressure to spend $$$$.
No thank you.

I just checked into the price of single vision lens at Costco. It was $40 for the lens (poly carb) and $18 for the frame cutout (if the frame was not purchased at Costco) otherwise this was free. Scratch resistant coating was $30.

It looks like I might be headed to Costco for my new glasses. This may be a silly question, but do you have to be a member to use the vision center?

Interesting. I am amazed that you can get glasses that inexpensive...and another PP had suggested an online site for even cheaper. How did you measure (pupil distance?) for the lenses - did your eye doctor do it for you? What information did you need to send them?

Do you wear your glasses all the time, or just for driving, or a limited time. What kind of lenses are you purchasing? (On topic, did you get your $200 to $300 comparison eyeglass pairs at Costco, or somewhere else?)

I would like to have single vision lenses for sitting around watching television. That would be an excellent source and totally worth it for a second pair.**

PS - **I'm still pretty happy with Costco for my "I can't get out of bed without 'em" eyeglasses.

I just called Costco and asked them what my Pupilary Distance was and they told me over the phone. Took about 30 seconds for them to look it up.

My eye insurance will only cover contacts or eyeglasses, not both. Since I only wear glasses about twice a year (when my allergies act up) I spend the insurance allotment on my contacts and buy the $8 glasses from Zenni Optical.

You don't have to be a member to see the eye doctor, but you do have to be a member to buy the glasses or contacts.

Yes - as "Mrs Sparrow" said, you do have to be a member to purchase eyeglasses at Costco....but the savings on the eyeglasses will more then pay for the membership...and then you have a year to poke around the warehouse and website.

BTW - same thing with tires for automobiles....my experience has been that the savings in tires paid for my membership.

Now we have an "executive membership" and get cash back from our regular purchases. (Eyeglasses and travel don't count, sorry to say.) We generate enough cash back to pay for the following year's membership. (Maybe that is not a good thing to admit on the Budget Board. LOL)

I too always get my glasses at Costco. Excellent prices and a decent selection. Plus the head of the optical department at my local Costco is always really helpful in helping me pick out new glasses.

Yep, for DS who isn't the most careful with his glasses and they have held up wonderfully.
