Wanting to plan our next trip. We're discussing inviting DH's sis & her family. Her DS has a peanut allergy and they rarely go out because of it. I'm trying to get her interested --- she's alreayd wanting to go and thinking it might be safe if she plans ahead of time.

My thoughts are that a huge corporation like Disney has way too much to loose to not be safe and would surely work with her.

Suggestions???

Disney is great with food allergies. The biggest problem will be getting there. Flying is not great if the allergy is really severe. But, once you are there, Disney will work with you to find safe foods and even make things up seperately.

My DS has a Peanut Allergy and we been taking him to Disney since he was 10 mos old, he is now going on 5.
-When you make yours ADR's let them know you have a peanut allery person with you, they will note it and send the chef to your table when you get there. Remind the waitier about the allergy before you order.
-Tell the food court when you check in if there is one and they will make sure they have safe food throughout your stay.
-As long as Disney Knows they make everthing safe.
-Watch the Resturants in Epcot, it is harder for them to help you, I heard because of the different types of counties and food that they make it is harder to watch cross comtamination. Canada was helpful, none of the bread that they put on the table there is safe, but they had safe food for him to eat, we didn't aloud the bread at the table. And Rose and crown was helpful too.
-At all counter service resturants ask what they fry in and let them know you have a peanut allergy.
-My son loved the popiscle Izakoodize, he lived off of them.
-Some people say the Mickey head ice cream aren't safe, but I cheked into it and they said it was, my Son ate them the whole time we were there.
-If they say a food is safe and you are still worried question again. We were at Hollywood and Vine in MGM and my DS wanted the BBQ meatballs, the Chef said they were OK, but I knew some BBQ sauces aren't safe, so he went and got the bottle so I can read it to ease my mind, it was safe.
-WolfGang Pucks Resturant on the West Side is not safe, they use peanut oil and peanuts and tree nuts in everything. We didn't know, the chef came to the table and was Very Helpful, he didn't alound anything at the table that wasn't safe so our party all order around my DS, even the salad wasn't safe.
But they did make safe food for us, he washed everything and made everything himself to make sure. But I won't keep taking that chance there.
-Just make sure everyone knows and it will be fine.

As far as flying, I am not sure with it, we flew Spirit when my DS was 2 and there was no problems we had the first flight in and the last flight out. We told them we didn't want snacks because of the allergy and my son was fine.

We flew a 2nd time with him at age 3 with Southwest, he vomited the whole flight, he wasn't sick before we left so I am not sure if it was airsickness or what. We had the first flight going and I don't remember what was served. We drove home so there was no comparing to see what it could have been.

All the other times we drove.

We will be flying next year, I have read, wipe the seats with sanatizer wipes and or cover the seats with a blanket from home. Call the airlines and let them know about the allergy and ask for a peanut free flight, talk to them when you get there to remind them and even after you get on the plane tell them again.
My Dr. says to just have everything close to hand, and that if there was an reaction, must reactions are mild to hives from skin contact, rarely a breathing problem. It made me scared when he said that, but we have flewn twice already, and I will take all precautions to fly again.

Tell them to call their Dr about flying they will give them all details to dop it safely.

There is a great board over on the disability board on this subject. That might be a help too.

My DD has a severe egg allergy. Nothing nearly as scary as a peanut allergy, but I guess we have some experience in this area.

I second the idea of checking out the disablities board. They have some great information and contacts (Brenda Bennet) regarding allergy issues.

We are leaving for our 4th trip to WDW with DD on Saturday. One of the reasons we keep going back to WDW is because of how great they are with food allergy issue and other dietary restrictions (DD and I are also vegetarians). I am very hesitant to take my DD other places, like a cruise or an all inclusive resort because I do not think that they would be as diligent as the Disney chefs regarding her allergy.

We have had very good experiences with the chefs. They have been more than accomodating to us. For example, when we ate at Garden Grill last January, the chef made my DD a special pasta dish with egg free noodles and gave her a special dessert (Itzakadoozie) and because she was under 3, we didn't even have to pay for her! They really went above and beyond all of our expectations.

I am bringing a 7 yo boy with a peanut allergy with me next week and the ADR's and the tour people have been great! He is doing the Pirate adventure for kids and I was given the chef's phone number to call and talk to him before I booked and they are going to make a special sandwich for him and I bought one of those yellow bracelets and not only had our hotel and phone number put on it, but also about the allergy. His is not severe, but I carry a pen and he can tolerate stuff cooked around peanuts, just not peanut butter sandwiches. He is way better off than a few years ago!

Ask for the chefs number or ask someone to come out and talk to them about dinner. They are happy to help!
