We were thinking about trading into virginia beach next summer. Is it too late? We need a two bedroom. Is the area around virginia still nice, i heard it has gotten run down. Tell me what you think. thanks

I don't know the area well enough to make comments on that portion. While you're not necessarily too late, you are behind. Put in a request and see what happens. The 3 resorts on DVC's list do have 2 & 3 BR units. The ratings and reviews, and the posts I've seen her on DIS, would suggest their wall OK places but certainly not up to DVC's level. You might include HH and MB Marriott's (and possibly others) on your list and possible consider DVC HH as well. You could even reserve DVC and try to an exchange then if you got the exchange, cancel DVC HH and use those points. For DVC HH you should call exactly 7 months out on opening to have a chance of getting the reservation.

Consider trading into Williamsburg and driving the 35-45 min to the beach?

Area's OK.. safe.. it's 'beachy'.. it's not Orlando or Castaway Cay.. but you'd get better accomodations in Williamsburg..

If it's just beach you're after, trading directly into VB is still OK imo

Virginia beach is now a very high traffic area with hi-rise hotels and resorts lining the beach. I am sure you can find more than adequate accommodations, but if you are looking for any thing resembling a quiet beach you will be shocked. If you like the activity and night life then you will be pleasantly shocked.

I wouldn't consider VA Beach an equal trade for 160 points. I was not impressed with the area at all the last time I was down that way. Nor would I use my points to go up to Ocean City, MD. I just don't think either beach area is all that nice - they are not "resorts". They are busy, busy strip beaches. We go to OC and the DE beaches from where we live 'cuz they're close by - but it's a busy strip. The Bethany Beach & Rehobeth, DE area is quieter...but I don't think there's anyplace to trade to...
