Anyone Ever Take Cephalexin (Keflex) Antibiotic?

I was on it just last month. If I didn't eat with it, it tore my stomach to shreds. It was awful how bad my stomach hurt. I stuck it out because the food did help.

Seems like if there's that many folks complaining about similar symptoms, docs wouldn't be so dismissive.

Those symptoms sound just like what happened to a friend a couple weeks ago when he had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic. It was a different antibiotic, but the symptoms slowly built up until he collapsed and had to be rushed to the ER. He had been on the meds for 4-5 days at that point.

The rash could be to the amoxicillian from last week. The delayed rash after stopping that one has been seen in this house before.

I work at a pharmacy, and I would absolutely advise calling to speak with your pharmacist. Also, do make sure she doesn't take the meds on an empty stomach...they are pretty rugged. Everyone can react differently to any medication, even if you've taken a certain med before with no problem, sometimes out of the blue you can develop a new reaction.

It definitely sounds like an allergy to the Keflex. I cannot take regular erythromycin - feels like knives in my stomach. Avelox does the same thing. Also you are right a strep rash is usually on the trunk. I would call a pharmacist and stop the keflex immediately! Each time she takes it the reaction could get worse. This happened to my brother with amoxicillin, also for strep. They told my mom it was the strep causing his problem but it was an allergy to the amox that was worsening by the dose. By the end of the 10 days he was hospitalized and had to be in for 4 days he was so sick from the antibiotic.

Also wanted to add that I have had amoxil-resistant strep and Biaxin worked very well for me.

They probably cultured it and it came back resistant.
