Anyone ever stay in Rocky Mount NC on the way to Disney?

Hi all,

I am thinking of breaking my drive from NJ to Disney in to a couple stops along the way to break up the drive. I am currently stopping in Hilton Head, SC, but was thinking about also stopping before in Rocky Mount, NC (seems about half-way between NJ and SC). Has anyone ever stayed in Rocky Mount, NC? Any nice hotel suggestions or any to avoid? Any areas nicer than others? I would be coming down through 95 so would like to not stray too far off so it makes it easier to get back on for the remainder of the trip.

Rocky Mount hotels are not generally right on the interstate if that makes a difference for you (not far off though). You may want to consider going to Exit 95 (Smithfield). The outlets are there, newer hotels, and Outback, Cracker Barrel, Bob Evans, Zaxby's, etc. Exit 97 and 95 connect via a service road, but we like exit 95 better just because less traffic to get on and off.

Personally, (I'm from the area), in NC don't stay north of Rocky Mount or south of Smithfield due to either construction, older hotels, and/or crime.

If you type “consumer reviews for hotels in Rocky mt, NC” a travel site will pop up that I use often just to read the consumer reviews of hotels - you can type in words to look for in the review based on important things you’re looking for. Don’t mean to “advertise “ for it, I’ve just found it useful.

There's enough right at the interstate for an overnight stop, but there are some additional options a couple of miles away east on the parkway, including more hotels, shopping, dining--for example, Hampton Inn, Target, Panera Bread, among others are available, and a straight shot back to the interstate.

Wilson does seem like a good option. Nice area there? Seems like the places you mentioned would be convenient for a stay. Any recommendation on a nice hotel there or have you been gone for a while?

The Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express are probably your best bets at exit 95. I would not stay at the exit 97 ones. They are older and it is just too congested in my opinion.

I stayed in Rocky Mount on a drive down from Long Island when I first moved to the area. I think I stayed at the Tru by Hilton; it was great.

I am not the OP but have been quietly following since we have a 1-night stay coming up this summer for a sports event. I recently swapped to this hotel (and got a better price than the Holiday Inn Express I'd originally booked).

It's stable, especially a couple of miles from the interstate (but still straight shot back) has shopping centers and some hotels; the surrounding neighborhoods are stable. I've heard good things about the Hampton Inn Downtown ("Downtown" a misnomer as it's really at the edge of town); at the interstate (Exit 121) itself you have your typical Fairfield, Comfort Suites, Holiday Inn Express. Food offerings there will be mostly fast food, plus a Cracker Barrel. In the large shopping center down the parkway and the surrounding environ you'll find more sit-down options if that might be what you're looking for.

Eastern NC represent! I was born and raised in the area and get back at least half a dozen times a year.
