anyone ever stay at Ft Wilderness cabins?

Yes, I have stayed there. We did not like them. We were splitting our stay between CSR and FW Cabins. We spent the first half of our vacation at CSR, checked into the cabins, stayed 1 night, and then went back to CSR. There was nothing physically wrong with the cabins. They are nice for a larger family that wants to do some of their own cooking. We just didn't have the Disney feeling there. We much prefer the resorts.

Yes, for one day before a DVC stay began. Nice to be in the campground for that ambience, but the price seemed too high for a house trailer.
In the campground, as in any campground, you really have to settle in for a week or so, and create your own environment.
The year we stayed at WL, we rented bikes and rode all around the campground. It is nice, but different. Remember, it was one of the original components of WDW, even if the trains are gone.

We loved the Cabins. Our DD was a baby, and I loved having all that room! We actually didn't "cook", I think we picked up a deli pizza one night and cooked it, but that was about the extent. It definitely doesn't have the same disney-feel due to the lack of theming, but it was very enjoyable and peaceful.

If you have little ones who nap, it is a perfect set-up because you can put them in the bedroom and shut the door. And sit outside if you want to just relax and enjoy "nature".

I didn't care for the internal bus system though, to get you to the other busses. We used our car most of the time because it did take a long time to get anywhere using their transit.

I loved the cabins,, we stayed for 9nights. I loved all the room and the kitchen. I was able to feed the kids before we went out for the day, well on the few days we made it out... We ended up catching a nasty virus, so we stayed in the cabin a majority of the time. The kitchen came in really handy because I ended up having to cook lots of brown rice for us and dry toast due to that virus! I felt it was "disney magic" enough for us. I would definately stay again.

We just returned from there. We had a grand gathering of 14 people who stayed at the Ft. W cabins. We really enjoyed it there. The buses were very effective at getting you to the marina to take the boat to MK, but you really need a car to get anywhere else. It takes to long to take buses and then transfer. All in all, we really loved the cabins. There were very comfortable. We enjoy having a kitchen for coffee and breakfast in the mornings and our grandson was able to sleep a little later while we were getting ready for the day. The kids also had a place to play outside. It's much more convenient than staying in a hotel room. If you watch for the codes, you can get a pretty good rate.

We stayed in the FW cabins in December. It was okay. Like most things in life, it had pros and cons.

Pros: space, peaceful and beautiful atmosphere, napping kids can be in one room and you can be in another, proximity of HDDR (fun!) ...

Cons: the bus transportation takes forever - we hated the bus set-up but the boats are fun.
Our cabin was not very clean - the finish on the floors was crumbling or something; the floors were black with dirt even after I got on my hands and knees and scrubbed. Lots of mold. To me, it does feel like a trailer.
Having a car to drive to the parks seemed imperative to us. Edited to clarify: the only other option for getting around FW are golf carts which we wouldn't splurge for since it was twice the daily cost of a full-size rental car.

That said, we'd stay there again in the future. We hope to increase our family and the cabins will be one our few on-site options

We loved the cabins also. I will always remember when we pulled up at the cabin for the first time and got out, looked up through the opening above the trees and saw the lights gracefully flying across the sky. I stood there forever just watching. There were six of us and we got them for 169.00/night. We did not cook except for pizza one night. We ate breakfast most of the mornings in the cabin. It was nice having a full size fridge. We kept it full of water bottles (we would freeze the water overnight) and juice boxes. The two tv's came in handy. The bathrooms are large and we always had an abundance of towels. It was nice coming back to the quiet and peacefulness of the cabins and not hearing any body next door to you. The extra step of catching the bus at the cabin is somewhat inconvient but we still used their transportation the whole time. Allow enough time and don't be in a hurry. Remember it's your vacation. We would definitely stay there again. Oh, If you do cook, they do the dishes! :cool1: You know how hard it is to leave with dirty dishes in the sink.

We've stayed at the cabins 3 times and are planning a return visit to them this coming Dec as we will be bringing my Step-Son and his family.
We found the cabins ideal for traveling with small children because of the added privacy, kitchen facilities & all the onsite childrens activities that FW offers.

As far as Disney Magic - How can one of the original resorts, with Chip & Dale hosting a singalong campfire, free Disney movies, boat launch to the Magic Kingdom, viewing the Electric Water Pagent & Wishes from the beach, pony, carriage & hay rides, petting zoo, Hoop Dee Doo NOT be LOADED with Disney Magic?????

Cons are definatly the bus service to Parks other than MK/ Epcot. We didn't mind the busses, but we also hadn't experienced the convienence of the Monorail or Epcot Deluxe resorts yet. I didn't find the bus service at the values or moderates to be any better tho - only the Deluxes top it significantly. The other con, which is a small priority to us, is th lack of slide/themed swimming pool. We were generally there during the off season or made use of the water parks.

I really believe the FW Cabins are a hidden treasure of WDW for families with young children.

We made our first trip to Disney last June and stayed at the FW Cabins. We really enjoyed the cabin, but it cost a lot of money for the minimal amount of time we actually spent there. It definitely has a trailer feel to it though. I wasn't expecting that. We did rent the golf cart for our stay, and I have to admit that I don't think I would want to stay there without it! Our kids loved buzzing around the campground in that golf cart (adults drove). All and all we enjoyed it along with HDDR and the buffet place for breakfast (don't remember name). We never cooked, but we did eat sandwiches at lunch in the cabin sometimes.

We are staying at POR in 17 more days! I'm anxious to compare. I keep hearing everyone talk about the Disney feel. I hope it will be even better this time!
