Thinking of doing one on our next trip. A couple of questions:

1) If the race begins at 7:00 am (so be there around 6:30) and the park opens at 9:00, I assume busses are out of the question. Any ideas on transportation?

2) If the race is through a park, can the rest of my family get in during the race even though the park isn't open for 2 more hours? Not to do park stuff of course - just to see the start/end of the run.

Thanks!

I ran the Pirates and Princesses 5k during marathon weekend two years ago. The race began in the parking lot of DHS. There was a stage with live music/entertainment and lots of room for family members to observe.

When the race began, runners entered the park through a service entrance -- not through the turnstiles. There were characters throughout the race path, cheering us on. Some runners even stopped to pose for photos with the characters.

Family and friends waited at the finish line in the parking lot for runners to finish. There were snacks and water for runners after the race and the live music continued for a while. The entire race was over and cleared-out before the park opened.

I took a bus from AKL to the race. Special busses operated early for racers (before and after the race).

It was a blast! Fun for runners and viewers. :thumbsup2

Lots of fun !

Did the 5k as a warmup for the marathon last year. Don't remember much about the 5k it was over so fast
