In other words is it possible/has anyone ever reserved with a deposit directly with WDW two different resort and ticket packages (say 1 at Animal Kingdom and 1 at Art of Animation with tickets for the SAME party with slightly different (but overlapping ) dates? I may want to do this because we can't decide and wanted to see if we could set aside and reserve two possible scenarios. Thanks for any info!

Yes, I have done it. No problems.

Yes, this is doable. The downside is that you will need to lay out two separate $200 deposits and whichever one you cancel may take a few weeks to receive the refund. It won't transfer to the reservation you're keeping.

thanks so much.. and while were on the subject, if you book resort only can you add tickets later OR if ou book resort AND tix, can you 'downgrade' to resort only later?

You can do those things, but be aware that when you book with tickets, its considered a package. Room only and a package come with different deposit requirements and different cancellation policies. If you book room only and add tickets making it a package, you may have to pay additional money for a deposit (a minimum $200 deposit is required) and you'd be subject to the package cancellation policy which is generally 30 days prior (I say generally because its temporarily changed in light of the pandemic).

In "normal" times, I'd suggest booking room only and buying discount tickets through a place like Undercover Tourist. But given everything that's happened, a benefit of a package booking is that you can cancel by the cancellation date and receive a refund for the whole thing, and you aren't stuck with tickets that you may not be able to use the value of for a while.

Thanks nkereina. So then you COULD book room AND tickets as a package together and then later, if you wanted room only they would lower the price to the original room only offer?

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe to do this, its considered a re-booking. In other words, they will refund you the $200 deposit and you will have to lay out the deposit for the room only booking. They won't transfer between the two. There used to be a loophole where you could change it to a "ticketless package", where the tickets are removed but you're still under the cancellation policy of a package. Hopefully someone can confirm this is still a thing.
