Anyone ever rented a vacation condo in Williamsburg, VA?

We're thinking of Williamsburg for our summer vacation this year. We'd like to rent a condo so that we can put the kids to bed without it being "lights out" for DH and me as well.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I've looked at Homeaway.com and vrbo.com and was kind of surprised at the cost (approx $1000 a week). Is this the going rate? Are any of the condo resorts preferable to the others? Can anyone recommend a specific condo/owner that they've had good luck with?

Thanks in advance!

We have! We booked through SkyAuction and their vacation rentals twice. Both times we stayed at Kings Creek Plantation which was great. You can google pictures and reviews on tripadvisor.

Anotherplace to check renting dromowners is myresortnetwork.com. We have used this site before without any problems.

Good luck!

We went last May and stayed at Wyndham Governor's Green. Booked through vacationupgrades.com. Got a 2 bedroom 2 bath, full kitchen, pull out sofa (slept 8) for around $100 a night. Also, it had 2 pools, free mini-golf, all kinds of family activities, etc.

We own RCI and spent a week in August at Patriot's Place. This was our first time in a 1 bedroom (we always get a 2-3 bedroom so the kids had to rough it on the pull out sofa) and the unit was HUGE! It felt like a home. However, it did not compare to Florida units with amenities. There was a small pool, no hot tub and a cute little playground. The location was fantastic. We did use the sister resort for their indoor pool but I can't remember the name.

We also stayed at Wydham's Governor's Green through Ken Price at vacation upgrades.com. We had a 3 bedroom, I think. You can also use the pool and really nice arcade room at their sister property, (can't remember the name, King something?). Ken is great to rent from.

Thanks very much for the input. $100 a night sounds more like it! Per a PP's suggestion, I looked at skyauction, and they have some great deals for the off-season, but there are a lot of fees that kill the deal for summer high season.

Williamsburg is packed during the summer and places charge a bit more.

We went for a week this past Oct./Nov. and stayed in a 2 br at Kingsgate. It was completely WONDERFUL!!!
