I was thinking about possibly scheduling a surprise trip to the everglades or something, and maybe hitting a grocery store in the meantime but we'll be taking Magical Express in. Has anyone just rented a car for a day? Around how much?

I did a bit over a year ago to attend a football game in Gainsville. I picked it up the night before and returned it the next evening. The car rental is just past the entrance to the Magic Kingdom. I paid right around $80 - $100 (w/GPS) I believe when all was said and done. It worked out very nicely in my situation.

Also check Dollar rent a car. We just used them , They are located in the Wyndam resort right across the street from DTD and they are very reasonably priced. We just took the cross walk at the corner that is next to the toy store . It was super easy!

In Nov. we rented a car for 24 hrs. We picked it up at the hess station (sp) we went shopping and ate at the Ponderosa! We paid less then $70 with all taxes and ins. It was a mid size car. They even picked us up and shuttled us back to the resort! It was very easy!! We plan to do the same this year!! The last few years we took a taxi to the outlets and it was about $40 each way and that was only one stop. By having the car we stopped along the way! :thumbsup2

We rented a SUV in Sept/12 for a day. I used my air miles to pay for it so it was free, but had I paid cash it would have been approx $90 for the day. Pick up & drop off were at the Hilton on Hotel Plaza Blvd, across the street from DTD. I took the bus from POR & just walked across the street.

I was pricing one day rentals for our upcoming August trip this past weekend. We are staying at The Yacht Club. There is an Alamo rental location at The Dolphin, very convenient for us! Walkable from the hotel. A sub compact (Chevy Spark) is $38 per day, $34.00 if paid in advance. A compact (Nissan Versa) is $40 per day, $38 in advance..

Since we plan to use the car for a breakfast at IHOP & a quick trip to Prime Outlets on Vineland Rd.. we will probably go with the Versa :) (paid in advance of course..) lol

We have a few times. We have rented from the Car Care Center near the Hess Station by MK. We have also rented from the Swan/Dolphin one for a day. We just pick what is convenient to the resort we are staying at. We use it to go grocery shopping for the week. Pricing can vary.

We wanted to go food shopping so we rented a car in December at the Dolphin, we were staying at the Boardwalk.

We have rented from Alamo at the Dolphin. If you have a Discover card and get points, they have Alamo gift cards. It has bee spend 20 points for a $40 gift card the last few years. It ends up costing us under $10 (with taxes/fees) plus gas.

We used National from the Dolphin. Car seats were $10 per day. They offered infant and older.

You should be able to get a rental for around 50 per day for a midsized car. We just rented for 1 day a few weeks ago. Look around for promo codes and check out price line. That is who we booked with, it was easy peasy!

If you do a surprise one-day car trip, then the "or something" option might be more viable than going to the Florida Everglades from WDW. Its about 290-300 miles from Bay Lake Tower to Park Headquarters at Everglades National Park. Google Maps estimates the drive time about 4 hours, 39 minutes each way. With two little kids in car seats it will probably take even longer. Kennedy Space Center might be a more relaxing day trip from WDW.

I used dollar from Orlando airport for $20, same day drop off! Just used it to get to the hotel, wanted to be able to go to the grocery store and check in without using dme. Dropped it off at downtown disney.

You are about 4 hours from Everglades City via I-75 and further still to Shark Valley. If you go to Miami via I-95, you might be a bit far from Everglades City.

If you go to the Everglades bring some bug spray. You will need it. The mosquitos can be fierce.

I did a one day rental from the Car Care Center for $39.00 last January. Used a AAA or BJ's discount code. They also had a shuttle bus that picked me up and dropped off.

Last March we stayed at OKW for 2 Nights and then rented a car from hertz for a day to drive to Miami for a cruise.it was a 1 way rental which costs a bit more...but it was $108 with 2car seats. I had to take a cab from DTD to a local hotel to get the car. If you are picking up and dropping off at the same location it shouldn't cost you more than $100.... And it should be less

I've rented from Alamo/National a both these locations as well plus they have one in a hotel across the street from SSR that I have used when staying there. I generally stick to Alamo/National especially after a bad experience with another company. I usually do 1 day rentals as well which are usually in the $30-40 range for the cheapest car no extra fluff added. Use it to grocery shop, outlet shop, visit family and cheat on disney at the other parks. ;)

We've done it a couple of times now. Was about $50 one day from National and used the Car Care Center by the Hess the first time. Went to Universal that day and did grocery shopping. Next time, picked up at dropped off at the Dolphin, car was free thanks to all DH's work travel. Same deal went to Universal for the day and did some grocery shopping.
