Anyone ever hurt at disney?

When we were at Disney in December, I sat my daughter on a bench to get something out of my purse, and she immediately launched herself backwards off the bench seat and landed on her back on the pavement, smacking her head. We went to the first aid station and they took very good care of her, gave us an ice pack and cared for her--then they gave me a sheet of after-care tips and concussion signs to watch for. They gave us a number to call if we needed medical attention and said any medical costs would be covered by them.

The best medicine seemed to be that, right as we exited the first aid station, the Jingle Jungle Parade started and we got to be right in front, and all the characters waved at her and seemed to pay special attention to her. She was mesmerized (and such a brave, big girl!). I was really thankful that Disney provided the level of care they did and made sure I knew that they were there to help with the issue. My husband and I agreed immediately--that's the essence of the Disney spirit to us. Everywhere we went, it was plain to us that Disney cares about their guests.

When my daughter was 3 we rode Splash Mountain. The seat was wet (of course) and she slid forward on the down hill and split her lip open. I notified a castmember and she was very nice and snagged a lolly pop off a vending cart and made my daughter (and mom) feel very lucky and special. They have since fixed the seats with more stable seating which was a good move. I think Disney is very responsive to injuries and ride safety. Now if they were only responsive to the cost of tickets I would be in business. 100 bucks for a ticket ?? Umm they lost me with that price hike but I still have great memories.

Nothing with me but this morning getting off of Haunted Mansion, a man sitting (helped by family and CM's) having I believe a seizure. Hope the guy's doing ok. :(

We've had 2 Disney injuries....

1) A couple years ago, my DD (10 at the time), hurt her foot on a Surrey bike at the Polynesian. She was wearing Crocs, and I specifically asked the attendant if it was safe for her to ride in them. No problem....until her Croc got caught in the peddle. The croc ripped and her foot was cut and very bruised. It swelled and turned black and blue so quickly that I was a little concerned. The paramedics came and felt she was ok. I was not mad about the accident...a little annoyed that we were told it was safe but truthfully, since I was concerned enough to ask, I should have made my DD change to sneakers. The Poly staff kept the Croc and said they would use it to show the staff that they should not let kids ride in them. They bought my DD new Crocs and checked in on her later that day. I thought they handled it well.

2) I posted this one right after our Feb trip...."On Feb 19th, DH and I were in the Magic Kingdom with our 5 kids. While getting into her seat on the Carousel of Progress, one of my 3 yr old twins tripped and fell forhead first into the arm rest of her seat. I knew as soon as she looked up, that she was going to need stitches. I grabbed her and told my husband and kids that we needed to leave. I flagged down the CM outside the ride and everyone sprung into action. I had a washcloth, a handful of CM's, some sort of manager and paramedics there within minutes. The paramedic took one look at the deep cut and said that my DD would need stitches and asked if I was ready. I was off to the hospital in an ambulance with my DD. The CM's escorted my husband and 4 other kids through the back lot directly to the boat to our resort. When they got back to the room there was a stuffed Minnie, a music box full of chocolate, and a chocolate Donald Duck. The paramedic was great...as was the staff at Celebration hospital (which was VERY busy). When my DD was done getting her stitches (5 total - 1 internal and 4 external), the hospital connected me with Wilderness Lodge. They told me to call a taxi and they would pay for it when I arrived at the resort.

We boarded the Disney Dream the next morning....for back-to-back 4 day/3 day cruises. On day 6, the doctor took out my DD'd stitches (for free, no less). He was also very good to us.

The entire incident was an unfortunate accident. Disney was not at fault but they really did jump in and take care of us."

I wrote to Disney complimenting them on how they handled this accident. They called me about a week after they got my letter. They thanked me and said they would note the compliment for the CM's involved.

When I was in Epcot on my last trip in January I had just purchased a hot dog and had walked maybe 20 feet from the stand when a seagull flew at me trying to grab the food. Its body hit the side of my face and it left a superficial scratch near my eye. No blood was drawn (and I held onto my hot dog ) so I didn't do anything about it. It was more embarrassing than painful (though it did hurt for a while after).

I didnt not get hurt on Disney property, but several years ago we were staying at a time share in the area. I fell(on time share property)and skinned and bruised my knees/legs badly..It did hurt a lot, but I didnt fall on anything, I am just a clutz..BUT..when we went to the Disney parks, SEVERAL Disney employees asked me if I was ok, and did it happen in the park. Even when I said it didnt not happen there, they asked if I needed anything:thumbsup2

It was not at WDW. But I did get hurt at local amusement park. The ride opeartor start the ride before she suppose to and I slip fell on the bump cars and another bump car hit in the side and broken my ribs and my foot.

The local amusement park paid all of my medical expenses and made sure I was all right. The bad thing was I was head on a bus trip WDW with my church. Being on churtches was not fun and with broken ribs.

Aside from some bumps and bruises from inattentive drivers of strollers and ECVs, I can only think of one injury at Disney. When my daughter was five, she got stung by a bee in Fantasyland. She'd never been stung before and I was leary of removing the stinger myself, especially since I had no tweezers. We got her a frozen lemonade at the nearby refreshment stand to calm her down and told her the cold would make her lip feel better. Then we walked over to first aid where the nurse removed the stinger, disinfected, gaver her some children's tylenol and me some extra for later. Then she got some stickers and she was as good as new!

For the poster who was surprised that a food court employee saw and accident and didn't offer ice, I do have an FYI. I don't know Disney's rules but my daughter (now 19) works at a ski area/summer recreational area. She is in food service. They are absolutely forbidden from giving ice to a guest requesting it for an injury. They are allowed to provide directions to first aid with a suggestion that the guest go there for medical attention. They are also allowed to offer to call the paramedic to come to where the guest is if the guest says they need to ice themselves before they can walk to first aid. The rule is for potential liability reasons - if they are injured enough to need ice, they are injured enough that they should be professionally checked out.

2 visits ago I tripped in front of the castle and split open my finger. I went to First Aid and they cleaned me up and bandaged me the best they could. They suggested I go to the Urgent Care center for possible stitches, but I didn't go. They gave me band aids and sent me on my way. I think I bought neosporin in one of the gift shops.

In December, I came down with either a stomach virus or food poisoning. I didn't think anything could be done, so I stayed in my room at ASMo. I was eventually able to keep down Gatorade. However, I did send them an e-mail alerting them to a possible case of food poisoning. I got a packet from their legal department asking for details (what did I eat, where and when.) I gave them the details but told them I wasn't going to pursue the matter further.

I admit, neither incident was serious but they both kinda sucked.
