Checked in at BCV using points on Tuesday. Handicapped room... Not good so asked for regular Deluxe Villa. Got a non-handicapped room in a few minutes. All was good. Until the next morning when my credit card was hit for $1400!!! Spoke to someone that reversed the charge immediately... (Although it takes days to credit my account) but now I've noticed points were returned too!!! I just spoke to a manager to let him know that as of this moment we are staying for free!!!!

The charge is new, but I've read repeatedly that there's an interim period when your room is changed where points are back. Just ignore it. The system will put them back, and I personally don't want someone messing with them manually.

It seems that when they move you, they either have to or think they have to rebook you, so that's what happens with the points. Wait a few days, see if everything goes back to normal.

Some DVC resorts will charge you to move but $1400 seems a little high. :goodvibes

I know it will alll get fixed in the end, but dumping $1400 onto someone's credit card, even temporarily, could be a problem for some people. What if they only had $2000 in available credit and planned on using it for the trip? They would only have $600 left for charging.

It's easy to say someone shouldn't cut it so close when traveling, but life happens. We had two trips like that where I had to run up the card right before we left (once for medical bills and once for funeral expenses).

Don't worry, just ask Uncle Disney, he will let you charge on his resort keys. You can pay him later when you check out. You can then use online banking to pay down the CC to fund the other unexpected expenses.

I don't think the $1400 is a move fee, most likely it is a accidental cash charge for the new room. Glad you got it straightened out.

Sounds like they charged you the cash price for the room when they moved you. I believe bumbershoot is right, whenever you change big pieces of your reservation they have to rebook you. same thing can happen when you change or add names to the res.

Am I the only one who has sticker shock on the cash price for the room?

We once had some major issues with a room assignment at AKV. They promised to move us the next morning. But somehow the night shift failed to notify the day shift. So it was well into the next day when we were finally moved. Much to my surprise, our compensation was a room credit equal to the cash price for the first night. We used that credit to pay for our dining the entire long weekend as well as all our souvenirs. And we still had money left over.

The credit hit my account this morning. We happen to be in good shape financially so savings covered the difference but like a previous poster pointed out... That could have been a disaster if we didn't have the overdraft covered! I had put $500 in checking for this 3 night trip. I've learned not to move excess funds into my checking account. If I didn't have savings then overdraft fees for 2 days and a husband at home with no funds because he stayed behind this trip!! He couldn't live off Uncle Disney!!! The price was $1377 for a 3 night stay in a Deluxe Villa. We had a view of the back part of The Land/Figment area and could see a partial view of Illuminations from our balcony. DVC pays for itself very quickly for us... We are local with a 90 minute drive and come often!!!

Not exactly the same, but something similar happened to me twice.

Once at BWV, they upgraded me from a standard view to a pool/garden view. (Not that much of an upgrade since a tree blocked any possible view.)
Anyway, a day or two later I noticed a charge of over $2k on my credit card. They had charged my card rack rate for the room.
Got it straightened out, but they wouldn't reverse the charge until after I checked out, and the billing cycle was after the charge but before the credit.

Another time at OKW they upgraded me from a 1br to a 2br. (Don't know why, and it was pretty much a waste as the 2nd bedroom wasn't used.) At check-in, they asked if they should put the balance on my credit card. I said what balance? They were going to charge me rack rate for the room, but managed to get it fixed at check-in.

When you check in they ask for a credit card for "expenses".They make sure your card can handlea ceritan amount of charges. I thought it was 1,500.
But could it be that was the $1,400?

I have never had them pre-authorize the card. The room charge limit for deluxe resorts is $1500. When you reach the $1500 they charge your credit card and start over again.

I was told they charge when you hit 80%.... We had spent barely $100. When I got the itemized bill it was $1377 for accommodations and the remainder of the $1471 was what we had spent so far. My first thought was they put a "hold" on the account for $1500 but $1471 was such an odd amount? Then I thought someone charged artwork or something high priced... It wasn't until I called that they determined it was for the room!!!

They never pre-authorized our card for more than $1.

Although on our last trip when we got the joy of having SSR rebooked and a whole mess that went along on the side of those issues, we ended up with a credit on our account there. We spent just $5 and change over that. That charge was made after we had checked out and moved to VWL. We decided to set up charging at VWL, which we rarely do. (it was set up at SSR because you have to do so in order to get a credit when they mess something up)

Well I guess our CC didn't like that charge for 5-something, because by the time we were at dinner that same night, weird things had started to happen. I went to check dvcmember, to see if there was weirdness with our points from the SSR to SSR move, and on the front page after login, it told me that we owed money. Thinking it through, it was the same amount of money we had charged to VWL just that day, our first day at VWL.

We called the CC company during dinner (that was a joy), who said that the SSR charge had been flagged as fraud, so that caused our ROOM charges at VWL to be flagged on Disney's end. I still can't figure out how Disney found out about it, but they weren't charging the CC but also weren't really putting it on the room. Instead it was sort of like it was being put on our DVC account. SO weird! I should have had DH take a picture of my phone with his phone just so I could share the weirdness.

We got it all worked out and stopped at the desk at VWL on our way in that evening, it was cleared up just hours from when the fraud alert was made, but it was so odd how Disney's hotel charge system knew there was something going on almost immediately.

This may be the new tread at hotels . Where the pre charge your card for incidentals it's not actually final though . But it does eat up you available credit till its removed . I saw a dateline or 20/20 about it some places have a tendency to charge way more then the room is worth and some places will keep it in limbo for up to 30 days .

Now if this is the case I doubt disney would keep it in pending charge status for 30 days . I agree with you this could be a major problem I'd planning to use a CC on vacation .

I think it was determined up thread that it was most likely a charge for the cash room rate due to the switch in rooms (since the points were also returned). Disney does not do any pre-charging like you are describing.

We were given a Handicapped room last year at OKW. The room only had a shower but we needed a tub as the Dr. said so after DH surgery and the room smelt moldy. We never requested a Handicapped room. Was told that was all they had. They allowed us to move the next day after a long conversation at the front desk with a CM explaining to her that we were told the day prior that they would move us. The new room was worth the move but a real hassle. No points given back to us.

I felt sorry for anyone who would have to stay in this room. I think the smell was caused by the poor design in the wheel yourself into shower. Buses were load at night. Those that need a Handicapped room should get a deluxe designed room. I would not buy DVC if that room was my option which might be the case when I am older.
