Anyone ever had issues with their Target debit card?

I signed up for the Target debit card right before xmas. I used it a few times and it worked perfectly. I haven't been shopping there much lately but went twice in the last two weeks. My card was declined, but I didn't think much of it b/c I knew I had over $1000 in my checking. I hadn't used it for about a month so I was assuming it was an issue of forgotten PIN.

I called and changed my PIN. I went back again yesterdy and totally forgot about the whole thing. I picked up some dog food for about $30 and once again, card declined.

Both times there was over $1000 in my checking account and the purchases were about $30-40 each. :confused3 I ended up using my Chase debit card which is from the account that the Target debit is linked. So do I call the Target debit line or is it more likely an issue at Chase? Anyone else ever have a problem. Not worth having the card if I can't use it.

I would call the number on the back of the card. They will tell you why they declined it.

Same thing happened to me a couple of times, I think they had to run it as "Credit" instead of "Debit" and it then worked. I hate that though!!!

I've never had any problems, knock on wood, but I've been told by more than one cashier that the cards will run without any money in your account. That it takes three days for the transaction to go through. I've never tried this, but one cashier has told me that story at least a couple of times ... supposedly her manager told her it was a good reason to get the card. The lady cracks me up

Thanks for the replies. I will call the number on the card later this morning.

I remember when I used the card in Dec. it did take a few days to go through so it didn't seem like it instantly linked to an account.

Hopefully it will start working soon. I always buy our dog food there and with two adult german shephards that 5% is appreciated.

I've been told this too...and mine has always taken 3 days to hit my bank account

OK so I admit this is over $4.81, and I know that I shortened my life wasting my time over $4.81, but the longer I got into this call the more I was hoping this high school drop out at customer care would understand their problem and their mess up.

So needless to say I have had issues with RedCard Debit card

I returned two things totaling $5.08 and they charged back the 5% (which is fine/expected) and so I was supposed to get a $4.81 credit somewhere around January 25.

Skipping ahead to present

No deposit and I think I lost my receipt so take the handwritten deposit out of my checkbook as I figure it was a loss, but then I find the receipt(s) -- purchase and return.

Call up their customer care and explain that after reviewing the receipts it looks as if sales associate hand keyed the return and transposed to digits 7085/7058 but the receipt numbers completely cross reference each other so I figure this will be a quick call. I was wrong.

After I finally get to tell my dilemma and where the sales associate miis-keyed number the customer service rep at Target continues to tell me that it looks as if every purchase I made has been credited back to my back. (anyone looked at their online statement? IT is listed like this

- Target (store location)
- Target Debit Card ACH payment

- Target (store location)
- Target Debit Card ACH payment
etc....

So she thinks the ACH payments from my bank are all refunds and the money has been deposited back into my account so the $4.81 has already been deposited back (and then some)

30 minutes later (and after I told her she needs to learn how her system works) I get a investigation opened up. Wow, an investigation on $4.81 and they called it a "possible error"

So I love the fact you can buy Disney gift cards at 5% off, but I sure hope none of you have to deal with their customer care, or I hope I just ran into a one off... :confused3

I know this is an old thread but it is still happening... I have made purchases up to 400.00 and they have all been cleared by my bank that is linked to my red card. I tried making a 100.00 purchase today and it would not go through and the customer service line is stating that I do not have enough history built up to make a 100.00 purchase.... I have already made several 400.00 ones and they have all been fine... annoying people... Sorry for the vent but I saw this thread and was like *$@# this is still going on years later...

Dont trust Target. During their security breach my card was compromised. When my identity was stolen I called Target to get a new card and to see if card was compromised and they were concerned about the 5 cents I owed.....YES 5 cents and it was sent to collections... after 20 minutes on the phone I was avle to get card closed. Last weekend I went and made 2 purchases for $158 using my debit. 4 hours later I get an alert from my bank that Target took out another $600 from my bank. I called and talked to the Manager who accused me of trying to scam them. I called the bank and they said that the later transaction the store charge me card as a credit card transaction. Thankfukly the bank took care of it. I feel sorry for anyone else who had money taken out of their accounts unknowingly.
