Anyone ever get to "know" the actors from the shows?

I guess I am a very curious person but after seeing the shows 3 times now, often the actors are the same, and I start to wonder what their lives are like. Is there anyone who has met and talked with some of these actors? The young hercules or the Ann Marie from Disney Dreams in particular? I guess I am a bit fascinated with their jobs! Just call me weird! Anyone???

We actually were hanging out in the hot tub with "Young Hercules" on our Sept. Magic cruise and rode in the tram with him back from the Adult beach on Castaway Cay.

On our first cruise, we rode to the adult beach at CC with some of the actors. They are all Equity actors, so they make good wages. The foreign actors clean up, as they don't pay the American income tax on their wages. That was the main gyst of the conversation that day.

BTW, TSTOBB, I have your photo of the deck party as my computer wallpaper at work. Why? Because I'm in it! I was looking at it one day, and found myself in it. Kinda like a huge "Where's Waldo!", just a bit blurrier.

Man, that was a great cruise!

We were at the end of the stage during the deck party more watching what was going on than really dancing. My daughter was too tired to participate but wanted to be there. There was a rather large group of young very good looking people next to us who after a little while couldn't control themselves and were dancing and hamming it up to each others video cameras. They were so much fun to watch and then I realized that they were all performers in the shows. I ended up spending a decent amount of time talking to young hercules who is just adorable (especially without that horrible wig). He was there with his girlfriend who was visiting for the week and said that many of the performers were at the deck party because alot of them had family aboard for the week. We talked for a good while amout where he was from and what he would like to do in the future and I was really impressed. He handles himself really well for someone so young.

The CM even when they weren't working were so much fun to be around. They made the deck party for us.

I went to the Disney Behind the Scenes activity where I got to meet about 5 cast members. They just sat up at the bar in Sessions lounge and the guests who came, (only about 12) were able to just sit around on those couches and stuffed chairs in the lounge and fire away questions. The theater cast members got off onto some pretty funny stories of various snaffu's and how it is to live aboard the ship. One actress referred to the ship as "the floating petri dish" hence my adopting that term. (and this was BEFORE the NLV action) They all agreed that the hardest part of performing on the ship is not landing a dance move on a rocking stage, but keeping free of colds and not losing their voices. Two lead members are engaged and had some great personal stories. I guess quiet a few couples are made among CMs in every department on the ship. Ah, the Love Boat wasn't too far off. LOL
I recommend going to that activity. It was fun watching the remaining shows, knowing the performers a little better. It was held on Monday on the Magic last October. The navigator lists it as "Disney Behind the Scenes: Questions & Answers with the Walt Disney Theater Cast. Sessions, Deck 3 forward." 11:30-12:00 (It actually ran a bit later, everyone was really enjoying themselves.)

The Behind the Scenes activity sounds like the perfect solution to my curiosity problem! Is this an activity that is done every sailing on the Magic?

We talked in depth with a ton of the crew last week. So many of them were at Carlos and Charlies that we had time to talk. Most really seem to enjoy their time onboard, but love to get the chance to cut loose and enjoy some time onshore.

We also met the two lead singers in the Charles Marshal band at the airport yesterday. They are were awesome performers!!!!!

The cruise staff is fantastic onboard the Magic. We know quite a bit of them by now after 7 cruises and they really make the cruise what it is.....if it was not for their unending energy at all the deck parties, theme nights, pool games, bingo....the cruise would not be half as much fun!!!!

Beats me. I did hear about it on these boards though. Maybe Dave, Michelle or Barb could answer that one.

On our Dec 2000 cruise we ate at the Welcome Aboard Lunch with some of the stage crew. 2 ladies who made costumes for the show. This cruise was the last cruise for this set of actors and you could tell they had a blast. They all came out and enjoyed the deck party on tropical night. We noticed we always had actors for the people taking attendance and explaining things at the lifeboat drills. We figured it had something to do with there ability to speak clearly. :D

I don't remember all the info on this that we heard at the behind the scenes things, but the actors spend "x" number of weeks on aboard and have to spend "x" number of weeks on land. I thought they actually finished a contact and would have to be rehired by the cruise line. After having a few weeks off they could return to rehersals on land then after a set number of weeks return to sea. Does this sound right to anyone. I don't remember how many weeks on and off they had to maintain.

I am curious about this as well. Thanks for the info.

They have a "Behind the Scenes" series on all 7-day cruises, but the programs that can be offered vary from week-to-week based on what else is going on in the theatre, and how full the ship is.

This activity has been offered on both of our Western cruises. I sure hope they continue to offer it because it is great! We did it on the 1/4 cruise, and we also ended up chatting with several members of the cast afterwards. We were wearing t-shirts with photos of several of the cast in their Hercules costumes from the Wonder (a long time ago, some of them used to come out after the show for photos). Of course, that caught the casts' eye, and they knew the people on our shirts. We were really excited to discover that our favorite Peter Pan from the Wonder is now on the Magic too...we are especially excited because this same cast will be there when we sail on Memorial Day week (it will be their last week).

Hey Barb! Can I borrow that t-shirt?????:p
I wish they would still allow pictures afterwards! That would be so cool! We will be on the Magic in April so I guess I will be able to see your favorite Peter Pan. Does he also play the young Hercules like the Peter Pan actor does on the Wonder?

Hubby says that he plays Hermes. I think they switched the "tracks" around. Watch him during Disney Dreams and you will see him juggling and goofing around...it's so funny!
