and have over 30 presents left to wrap . . . and is hosting a family party for 15 in 3 days (on Christmas Eve)?

This has been a horrible week. I was so organized in planning to do a little bit each day, and then we were going to bake cookies with the kids on Friday since they're off of school.

Two kids were sick Monday and Tuesday. I came down with what feels like the flu yesterday early evening - high fever, horrible body and joint aches, etc. Still feeling terrible today and have no appetite.

I know the best remedy is rest, but how do I rest when I have so much left to do?

I'm calling the family later to tell them that things here will be VERY casual on Saturday. I will probably have another sick kid by then. I'm praying the DH doesn't get sick.

If this has happened to you, please share your story.

Not just before Christmas, but ON Christmas Day and we were hosting dinner!

DH called everyone to let them know I was sick (in bed!) but made sure to let them know they were all still welcome to come if they wanted to but that they would have to do the finishing work on the dinner (I had done much of it the day before).

They all still wanted to come, and it was actually kind of nice for DD and DS to spend time in the kitchen together. :) Everything got done and they all still enjoyed Christmas. I slept through most of it. :(

Hope you feel better quick OP! Everyone should be understanding of your situation though, and if they're not, too bad!

I think someone here gets sick every Christmas.

You have over 30 presents left to wrap :scared1::scared1:. That's a lot of presents.

Yes, every year I get sick the week before Christmas with a cold or a virus. One year my mom came to visit for the holidays and she brought a stomach virus with her. We all got it except DH (who was home on leave from Iraq...poor guy). This week I have a chest cold and Dd has strep. woohoo fun.....

Yup- two years ago, I came down with the stomach bug on Christmas Eve. I missed my kids singing at church, dinner (which I was supposed to make), and I was wiped out the next day (I was supposed to host dinner at my house). It was AWFUL.

I stayed in bed and slept for 2 days straight (in between trips to the bathroom).

But for me, it comes with the territory- I teach preschool. :rotfl:

I got bronchitis right before Tgiving a few years ago. I was sick for 2 weeks. Only missed like 7 days of work though because of all the days off.

I learned that I shouldnt cook when I cannot taste.

I almost always get something right before Christmas. Since having kids and staying home it is a bit better (I swear when I worked people were more likely to come in sick towards Christmas so they didn't use up their vacation/sick time and/or they had run out so they came in anyway). For the last few years I worked I almost always was sick and without a voice by Christmas.

The one and only time I got the flu I got it 2 days before Christmas, had an 18 month old, all the presents to wrap and I was responsible for the dessert for Christmas Eve dinner at my Grandmas as well as all the baked goodies I made for her. That was a bad bad year!

On my monitor your words lined up so AWFUL was right under "kids' so I read "I missed my kids AWFUL singing at church..." :lmao:. I had to reread it a couple times to figure out why you were upset that you missed your kids' awful singing.

I currently have a stomach bug of some sort (managed to fully embarrass myself this morning by throwing up all over the entrance way of my office buildings). We do Christmas on Friday - hopefully I'm over this by then.

Right now. I'm miserable. I'm cranky and have so much to do. Plus the co workers are being pills (as if I want to feel this way!) I'm trying, folks!! I almost never, never get sick! Could I have timed it any better??? Sheesh!
I want to curl up under my desk and sleep right now. Can't breathe, coughing-- my Dayquil is wearing off. I'm feeling for anyone else in the same boat!! God Bless us Everyone!

DH is terribly sick right now. He was terribly sick last week, got over it, passed some milder version of it to me (who just got a little stuffy for a few days) and is now sick again. And yes, that does interfere with my ability to get stuff done for Christmas. There is lots to do and I can't count on him to help, now. Also, he wanted to make this special dessert himself and now I don't know when he's going to do it (I certainly don't want to try, it's his recipe). I just got texted from a friend I forgot we said we'd have dinner with on Frinday, and I know he's going to want to back out because he's not feeling well.

Sigh.

Not on the holidays but the last time I went to WDW I had worked myself up into a tizzy trying to make everything as perfect as I could. I actually, literally threw up on Main Street USA and was "out" for the full day. Stress can do some pretty powerful things.

No one is sick, thankfully, but DS13 fractured the growth plate in his ankle playing basketball on Sunday. I had to have DH work from home today so I could finish Christmas shopping. I haven't baked yet and I have Christmas here. No presents are wrapped. Nothing like the last minute! LOL

Yup. Had the stomach flu this weekend, into Monday. Missed family Christmas. :( Came home from work yesterday, exhausted, to find DH with a fever and stomach flu. The stomach stuff has mostly passed now, but we're both completely wiped out. The inlaws are coming Friday. I'm so not excited about that. (Neither is DH but we haven't seen his dad in almost a year.)

Yes, I've been home the past two days with what feels like the plague. DH had it last week and now it's my turn. Not only do I have things to get ready for Christmas, but I have a ton of year end things to finish up and work and I'm only working one day next week. It's hard to rest and relax when all you do is stress and worry!

I hope all of us who are feeling this way get over it quick!

I am usually ill around the holidays. Last year I had a stomach bug on both Thanksgiving and New Years Day. Not fun.

I hope you fell better soon.

Sure, in the last 7 years I have missed Thanksgivings, Christmases, Easters due to having a child in the hospital. This year DSbwas in during our long anticipated (and sadly cancelled) WDW trip, DD got home the day before Thanksgiving and is currently back in the hospital. We are hoping to get her home tomorrow.

I am rarely sick. I'm a nurse, so i'm pretty much immune to everything but rabies. But one year i came home from the hospital about midnight on Christmas Eve with a high fever, chills and body aches like you wouldn't believe. I had a baaaaad case of the flu--I could hardly move! DH got it about 24 hrs later. So there we had our 3yr old with two parents sick in bed on Christmas Day. We had to take turns getting up to supervise him. It was the only time I actually considered giving my child a narcotic to make him sleep.:upsidedow

You get a big fat hug from me. I don't know how you do it. DH was in the hospital last week for 3 days and he's recovering at home. But at least he's an adult. Still, that little hospitalization threw me for a loop. I would like to say i can't imagine with a child, but this time last year we were in the children's hospital with Christian and his fractured hip. Yeah. 6 wks of forcing him to stay in bed--NOT FUN.

Well, there was the Christmas I had the flu. And we were hosting the family dinner (I think there were about 20 people coming). And I was 6 months pregnant.

It worked out well for me. My mother (also sick) and I laid on the couch most of the day and everyone else did the dinner.

This year DH is recovering from what the doctor thinks may have been a case of food poisoning. He's better today.

:cutie:
