Anyone ever get a DVC room upgrade

We got upgraded last Dec. 30th at BLT from a 1BR to a 2BR. They stated there were no 1BRs available. :confused3 Anyway, it was only 1 night since we were moving the next day, but it was a nice birthday present. No extra points were charged. :cool2:

Also wanted to add another thing that I guess doesn't happen much...when we checked in again on Jan 1st, we were going to have to move again because our wait list didn't come through & we were only able to get a SV & then a LV the next night. I spoke to the manager & he let us stay in our SV room view as long as we were willing to accept a "downgrade" from the LV night. He was very nice to let us do that, because we really really didn't want to move again & we had a great view of the MK!

Well, in 30 plus DVC stays it's never happened to us, no upgrade or downgrade, we get what we book. My question is, if you were told or went to your room and found it to be upgraded from what you had reserved, ie: a studio to a one bedroom, did you or would say you were given the wrong type of room? Did you ask why the upgrade?

I would from the get go just to ensure that I would not be charged additional points, even with the probability/possibility that I would have to move.

i've stayed many times...got what i wanted. What happens if a 2 bedroom gets booked up in one resort...would they send you to another resort?...would they give you 2 separate 1 bedroom villas?...i wouldn't want that unless they're next to each other.

I was actually told when I called MS from home I believe it was the afternoon before. I called once again after many times of trying to see if my wait list had possibly come through & was told that no it hadn't but I was lucky enough to have a really good upgrade including an awesome view, because there were no 1BRs available for the night of Dec. 30th. Sure enough we had a 2BR on an upper floor with a beautiful view of the MK. Even after checking back in on the 1st, our 1BR was a lower floor & considered a standard view, but we could still see quite a bit of the MK. We loved BLT! :cool1:

We did ask and get an upgrade once. But as we were finishing the transition they mentioned that the additional points were going to be taken out of our account. I'm glad they mentioned that because up to that point we assumed that like a hotel we wouldn't have to "pay" for the upgrade. We did go through with the upgrade anyway.

, It may happen. I am not sure of the success rate, but it is possible:wizard:

Nope, only upgrades that ever happen are because of maintenance issues, not because they like you. And a shorter term stay would be more likely to get those maintenance upgrades.

But flirting, offering a bribe, whining, etc, won't get it. More points might if it is available.

We checked in last Saturday, Oct. 30th, to the VWL for a 3 night stay in a studio. We got to the resort early, around 11 am, and as expected our room was not ready. No problem; we planned to go off to MK anyway. We got a snack at Roaring Fork and rested for a bit before leaving for MK. I checked my phone, and had a voicemail from a WL manager saying there was a problem with our assigned room and it was being taken out of service. He asked us to return to the front desk for new keys.

I fully admit... I hoped we had been upgraded to a 1 BR. But, it didn't happen. We were assigned another studio. So having a problem with your room is definitely not a guarantee of getting an upgrade.

We were at HHI from August 30th to Sept 3rd and my husband called me over when he was checking in and said they are overbooked on the 1br's and they wanted to upgrade us to a Grandvilla for the first night. I couldn't say yes quick enoughQUOTE]

Epic Awesomeness!

That's right. Only if there is nothing available in your room category would that happen.

we were upgraded april of this year from a studio to a one bedroom at the beach club. We knew why, cause the resort was desserted. It felt like post 9/11 levels
so they prob had a ton of empty rooms

It can happen but it probably won't.

There isn't a benefit in upgrading a DVC Member. With a cash Guest, you upgrade them and they are certain to choose to book again at Disney. With a DVC Member, they have to come back or loose their points.

My parents got upgraded to a 2 bedroom and received free room service every day. So yes it can happen

Free room service??????? What did they order? All their meals or just one a day? Maybe they confused them with a cash guest.

So, has anyone gotten an upgrade by flirting??? :rotfl:

Not on a DVC reservation, but quite often at other hotels. And I wouldn't really call it flirting, per se. I just treat people the way I like to be treated and ask nicely. All they can do is say no. I'd say it works at least half the time.

Lets say I have a DVC studio reserved and get there and ask if they have on one bedroom avail for the time I am there. I flirt real nice and ask to be upgraded to that room.

We have been upgraded twice from a studio to a one bed room, but it was at the DVC's offer rather than our request.

If sales thought they could sell you more points after experiencing an upgraded room, then they could pay for some upgrades....
