My niece is looking for a direct flight to MCO with a good price, from the Detroit area.

I noticed that Flint has an airport and Southwest now flies direct from Flint to MCO. She lives in Sault Ste. Marie, so it would actually be a shorter drive for her to go to Flint instead of Detroit.

Can anyone who has flown from this airport and/or taken this flight give me some feedback please? How is the airport? How is the airline? How is the flight?

Thanks.

Hi there, I can't give that much help but will try! We spend a lot of time in Michigan Upper & Lower. We live on Manitoulin Island, 3 hours from the Sault, so for us, we always check Buffalo, flint, & Grand Rapids.
We have always lucked out with Buffalo, but for Christmas this year we are flying Flint to Tampa on the 23rd of Dec back Jan 3rd, we paid $204 round trip on Southwest. In 8 years this is the first time I have flown this route and the first time with Southwest. Have always flown Airtran or Jetblue. '

With Southwest you don't choose your seat, you get a boarding number at the 24 hour check in or you can pay for the early bird check in that will check you in at the 36 hour mark so possibly a higher boarding pass number. But if she flying solo it won't matter where she sits.

As far as the airport goes, I have known a lot of people that have flown from there, my brother does it every year. My sister that lives in the Sault as well. It is a small airport. They keep telling me to leave myself maybe an hour and fifteen minutes. It is quick and easy. My flight leaves at 7 am, so I will get there around 5:45 am. I don't think she will have any issues whatsover. I would do it if the price is right.

We just flew in and out of there (august 19-27)...we usually fly out of Detroit...and it was our first time using southwest.

The airport is awesome for a couple of reasons. It is a much more reasonable size. Especially since we travel usually travel with 4 teens. The other reason is because of the cost of parking. It is much cheaper than Detroit.

Southwest...I like it because the allow 2 free bags and include a soft drink. I would never fly with them though without paying for the early bird seating. It would stress me out too much. This is the only thing I did not like. The price cannot be beat.

We are flying with them out of Flint for our trip in 3 weeks. The only thing I'm concerned about is the no assigned seating thing. We did pay for Early bird check in, but I'm still worried about the not getting an adult with each kid.

We had no problem sitting together, but if you have small children you can preboard.

My kids are 11, 9 & 6 so I don't think they fall under that category. They have never flown before and my 9 year old has major anxiety :(

SWA offered family boarding for families with kids 4 yrs old or younger. The family boarding occurs after everyone in the "A" board group has boarded the plane.

Preboard - AKA the folks who are allowed to board the plane first - is reserved for those that are handicapped.

You should have no problem having an adult from your party seated next to one of your kids. I really would not worry about it you will be fine :thumbsup2
