We are going on a big family vacation & we could rent 2 mini vans and drive down for a fraction of the cost of flying. We are currently living in Indiana so this really isn't for us, it would be for my MIL (won't drive), Possibly FIL, BIL, SIL, and 5 nephews. I was looking at airfare and it is just awful...my MIL swore she would never fly again after Sept. 11 as well...I started to get her a little more easy on the idea but after the latest crash in Queens, I don't think she will fly. So considering that and the price of airfare, driving would be the best option. We would probably have them drive down here then we could all caravan down from this point together. I know it is about 30 hours from Lethbridge to where we live & 16 hours from here to Orlando. Has anyone made the drive? Did it drive you crazy? It might be smart if they drove down & spent a day before we all left to go to Orlando to give them a break. I'm so excited already!! We all went together in January of 2000 and had a complete blast!

My best friend and I drove down from Calgary to Orlando in 1993. It was the year the U.S. got hit with huge floods so we had to go the longer way. It took us 55 hours in total. We drove straight from here to New Orleans then the next day, we drove to Orlando. Thinking back, I don't know how we did it. We left July 31st and we had no air conditioning! We went through Dallas and saw a big sign with the temp on it..it said 42ºC!! We were young and crazy I guess...I would NEVER do that now! Must have had a bigger heat tolerance because now I get grumpy if it's more than 25º! :)

It really depends on the person I guess...you would have to REALLY like to drive because I would NEVER, EVER do that again! It was way too much driving in so little time. Even flying now takes a whole day almost with stop-overs from here, that's bad enough! We are going in Jan and have to be up at 4 am to catch our 8am flight and we don't land in Orlando until 7:30pm local time!

If they are going to drive, I would suggest to take several days to do it. Sitting there in a vehicle for days is NOT fun! Well, it's exciting at first....then after 17 hours, you just wanna beam yourself to WDW!!!:p
