:idea:I wasn't sure where I should post this, but I love my fellow DVC'ers opinions so I came here.

We are headed to the world for Halloween with my folks and 2 girls. I don't want to do the MNSSHP on halloween bc it is extra money and we thought it was super crowded when we did it a few years back on Halloween.

I am planning to do the party on Fri Nov 2nd instead. My hubby wants to go to fort wilderness and do the haunted hayride on Halloween and trick or treat there. He said he read something about it and thought it looked cool. My prob is that its 60$ per hayride for 4 people..well I have 6 and I hate to spend 120$ to do this. I booked a princess dinner for Halloween and figured we could just celebrate Halloween on the 2nd..but my hubby doesn't like this idea. WWYD???

You could go over to the Boardwalk in the early evening on Halloween and trick or treat there. No charge. :)

That's really nice! Do kids trick-or-treat around all the resorts? I'll be at AKV over Halloween, and I don't want to be empty-handed.

I know DTD was discontinued as far as Trick or Treating. There was still a dance party there last year. I hadn't heard that the BW party was discontinued.

There was a party last year at BWV so I'm assuming it's on for this year too. It's so much fun. We don't even have kids but still we still enjoy the evening. It's fun to see all the unique costumes and all the children enjoy the DJ and the dancing. Check it out on Halloween. They also have pumpkins decorated by each department in the BWV lobby. The guests vote on their favorites and then a winner is declared.

Aren't the parties at the resorts for the guests of that resort? Kind of like neighborhood trick or treating is for the people who live in that neighborhood?

Isn't the hayride 15 or 20 min long? a lot of money for a short ride.

The trick or treating was all along the boardwalk area, where the entertainers are. There was no attempt to limit participation the year we were there. Things were handed out similar to the way noisemakers are given out NYE.

Yes that is what it says on the Disney site that Halloween activites at a resort are for guests of that resort only but people don't follow that and I guess Disney doesn't enforce the rule:confused3 I brought this up a couple years ago and well it didn't go well for me so this is all I'm going to say about it but if were suppost to follow Disney rules on these boards then this should be followed just like pool hopping, mugs, etc.

We did the haunted hayride in October 2010. The kids were 4 and 7 at the time and we were over in the Fort Wilderness area for Mickeys Backyard BBQ beforehand. We thought it was pretty cool. DH thinks a lot of stuff at disney is overpriced but when this was over, he felt it was worth the money.

The kids were terrified (in a fun way) and they still talk about it! We had watched the cartoon Ichabod Crane disney video a few days before we went, which I think added to the experience for us.

Did you do trick or treating at the campground? How long was the hayride?? Just curious about your experience.

No, we didn't ToT at the campground. But we did check out the decorations - a lot of the campgrounds were decorated for Halloween, which we thought was pretty neat.

I can't recall exactly how long the carriage ride was - probably about 30 minutes?

I agree with OP, $60 seems awfully expensive for 30 minutes, especially considering it's about the same price for MNSSHP, which is 8 hours (if you take advantage of the 4:00 entry)

We stayed at the BWV for Halloween 2011. They did indeed have a Halloween party for the kids. It was fabulous!!!

There was a DJ, characters (Mickey and Donald took turns), small games for the kids to play, and trick or treat stations. My son got a small bag full of candy (enough for him)

We did the MNSSHP on Nov 2 (or 1st, can't remember).

Actually, in hindsight, the party at the park wasn't all that great. We loved the party at our hotel, though!

I do believe all the hotels have some sort of trick or treat activity for their guests.

Also, if you are going to venture over to Ft Wilderness, I do believe they have a cute Halloween parade with golf carts that day. You might want to venture over there and find out!

DH and I did the carriage ride in Oct 2010 and it was cool. It's about 30 minutes and does the story of the Headless Horseman...which about scared the pixie dust out of me because I didn't realize he would be riding up behind our carriage. Probably would not recommend it for young children especially if they are not familiar with the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I've heard MNSSHP is always sold out on Halloween night, but I would do that over spending the $$ for the carriage ride or plan to attend the party at the resort.

:thumbsup2thanks so much everyone for the help.

I think I will check with our resort as well as the boardwalk area to see what kinds of activities that they are having the week before we arrive.
Now all I have to do is come up with a theme for costumes. Last time we went for halloween in 2007 we did Peter Pan. I was Pan, hubby captain hook and our daughters were tiger lily and tink.
