Anyone ever do co-ownership?

After a trip to OKW in February, 2001, I vowed to purchase into the DVC as soon as I could write the check but then got back home and and of course reality struck: husband quits job, house needs a new roof, etc. but I still enjoy reading the boards and one question I haven't seen addressed (and probably just missed) is if anyone has ever bought into DVC with a partner? My sister and I started talking about it last night and it seemed like a great way for us both to enjoy Disney. We thought something simple like dividing it between odd and even years might work. Anyone doing something like this already and is it or isn't it working? And, a big thank you to all for all the help and info these boards provide and in such a congenial manner, which I have never seen anywhere else.:)

Yes, my family split the membership among 4 of us, 3 siblings and my parents. We are all listed on the deed, which is important for making reservations, receiving newsletters, etc. We each have enough points to stay each year in a studio (OKW is our home), but we have banked and borrowed our way to two-bedrooms and even the Grand Villa for all of us last year. Two of us have recently done add-ons. The main problem with joint ownership is keeping track of points. We have one family member do the primary accounting, so that we do not miss banking deadlines. Good luck deciding!

Dear Munchie,
My husband and I co-own with my sister who is single and has a daughter
three years old. This has worked out great for us. My husband gets limited
vacation time and likes to go other places so he only comes every few years.
My sister, Her little one and myself go every year at least once.
My husband and I have used points to stay at the White Swan in SF,
and my sister is considering Disneyland using points. We owned at OKW
which was paid for. We recently bought 150 points at BWV and the amt is
deducted from my checking every month. My sister works for the bank we use
so she makes certain she puts the amt in my checking on the months it
is her turn to pay. So far so good, I only have one sister and don't forsee
any problems.

Munchie...that's a great idea. I never even thought that about splitting a membership! DH and I could see ourselves doing that with one of our siblings!! I realize this didn't answer your question....I just had to add my useless two cents. ;)

My DH and I bought 300 points with his dad and stepmother. They do not want to go to WDW every year so we split the points down the middle, but have arranged to do large family vacations with all the points every other year or so. Our DS (2) is the only grandchild so far, so that usually sways their decision as to where to vacation.:) My DH and FIL set up a separate checking account at our bank just for the DVC payments. The payments are directly taken out by Disney, but the account is linked to our regular checking so that my DH can monitor the balance and remind dad when to make a deposit.:D Each family owns jointly so my DH and FIL each got their own membership cards. They only problem we ran into was that they only sent one Welcome package and the StepMIL was jealous that I got the bag and she didn't get one. However, I'm sure if I called MS and explained the situation, they would've sent another bag. Good luck with your decision making.

Yes, there are 4 of us - Me, my husband (different last name) and my parents (also different last name). I think we confused Disney because the orignial paperwork had me married to my step-father and my mother married to my husband.

We usually vacation together. Mom and I do short studio visits and when we all go we get the 2BR at OKW, which is very large. We love it. I don't think I would have gone in with non-family, and it depends on how much you actually like your family - we get along all right.

We were just looking over old paperwork last night.

Enjoy!

I own jointly with my sister and BIL. Since we always vacationed together, and had no problems, we felt this would work out well. We own at OKW and are now doing an add on at HH. Overall it has worked fine, except for an occasional disagreement over who to take with us. If you get along well and trust each other, joint interest can work, although sometimes you have to work at it to make it happen.
