Anyone ever covered their existing headboard

You see on all these home improvement shows that they take an existing headboard and cover it in fabric. Just wondering if anyone has tried it and how difficult it is. I have an old queen headboard that I would like to simply square it off and cover with a nice fabric. I don't have the extra dollars for a new bedroom set and I thought this would spruce up the headboard then I could later look for nice dressers, etc. Ideas anyone?

I have never done the headboard thing because my bed doesn't have one. i have hung tuilleon the wall above my bed and twisted some small white lights around it to give it a nice effect. It looks nice at night.

INstead of purchasing new dressers could you possibly paint them to give color to your room at least for now. I found a desk on the side of the road for my daughter. It just needed some paint and new hardware. I spray pained it ocean blue and them went over it with a darker blue that had sparkles. Her room is Little Mermaid and it fit right in. I know that you won't do sparkles, necessarily, but here are so many sprat paints out there. SOme have a wood tone, some are antique. I have done quite a few pieces and have received many comments. It is an alternate to purchasing new furniture at least for now. JUst somethgin to think about.

A suggestion - make a removable slip-cover for the headboard. I have one that I bought years ago. I am so glad that the cover was removable. I've changed decor many times plus it can be washed.

My frame (which could be your current headboard) is covered in batting with a thin layer of muslin over it (stapled). Then the slipcover just pulls over from the top.

We made Remy's headboard for her twin bed (this way we only had to buy a metal frame instead of spending $$$ on a headboard set at the store). Had the hardware store cut a piece of plywood to specs, covered in batting then stretched fabric over it and stapled it down in the back (which you don't see as its against the wall). Sooo easy. Right now its in a paris themed fabric but when we move in May she decided she wanted to do her room in the PB Wahine line..I bought the striped sheet set (the duvet is pink/orange hibiscus flowers) and will used the top sheet (since she won't use it on the bed) to recover the headboard (just have to restaple it LOL), then use leftover fabric for accessories like recovering a lampshade, seat cushion, etc. Best part is the whole decor can be changed whenever she wants by using a few staples LOL.
