anyone ever call the restaurant directly?

I remember reading a recent post where someone mentioned that they called the restaurant manager directly and were able to get a reservation. I can't find that anywhere now.

Has anyone done this and been successful?

The only time i've called the restaurant directly was when I needed to make reservations for 15 for dinner

I did call a couple restaurants directly to see if a reservation was recommended. I did this back in 2006 I really cant remember where I found the numbers. I probably searched in google though.
