So last night we went to Olive Garden......It was my kids choice so we obliged.....

My husband was eating the salad when he chomped down on something HARD on one of his molars....Ouch!

It was a piece of @ 1/8" thick triangular shaped plastic - he broke it in half!

His molar hurt ( and still does )....He is going to our dentist today to have him check it out to make sure he didn't crack anything. It's almost been 24 hrs and it still is bothering him.

The restaurant was very apologetic, and even comped our meal ( which I wasn't expecting but it was nice). We gave the manager our information & today Olive Gardens insurance co. called to make arrangements with our dentist to get the molar checked out.

I am very impressed with the level of service! The manager even called later on last night to let us know where the piece of plastic came from. It broke off a serving tong for the salads.

So, anyone else ever have anything else mysteriously end up in a meal from a restaurant?

Kind of...

My MIL were having lunch at a nice deli in town and she was eating chicken salad. She said she bit down on something hard and when she fished it out, it was a piece of a tooth! Or more accurately a piece of a crown. She got all upset and went to the manager, demanding the meal be comped and screaming at them about calling the board of health and demanding to know whose tooth it was of their employees. The thing is (you know what happened right?)

It was HER tooth. You could clearly see where the crown had come off one of her front teeth.

That is great service. I would be impressed if I got that level of service.

Great story! Finding a tooth would be particularly disturbing/gross!!

I'm sorry, but :rotfl2:

I'll bet she felt pretty embarrassed. Hope the crown got fixed ok!

A couple of weeks ago DS and I were at our local Olive Garden. DS ordered a cherry coke (as he always does). We were enjoying our salad and DS was half way through drinking his cherry coke when he says "Hey Mom, what's this?" Here it was the top of the grenadine (sp) bottle that they used to make his coke "cherry". We told our server, she picked the glass up, shrugged and said "how did that get in there?" Now my thoughts were that at least DS should have gotten his drink for free, but nope, nothing was comped, just a shrug and a hmmmm. Needless to say, I doubt we go back anytime soon. I mean really, who could have missed that thing coming off in the glass????? It looked like the top they put on bottles of alcohol to pour them. :confused3

Once when I was a kid my parents and another couple were at Red Lobster and both the women had margaritas. A glass had been broken and some fell in to the ice. My moms friend had pieces in her mouth! The went to the hospital to get checked out but thankfully all was fine. This was over 20 years ago and I wasn't there so I don't know but I assume the meal was comped.

About a year ago, our family was having lunch at a very large Chinese Buffet. I had gotten a couple of those fried bread rolled in sugar. Yes, very healthy, I know. I am a rebel that way. Anyway, I took a nice big bite and then proceeded to make the nastiest face. OH MY GOODNESS. Now, I initially thought I was getting bread soaked in grease. But no, they had accidentally rolled the bread in SALT instead of sugar. It was awful.

Of course, the really funny part is that even after seeing me make that awful face, but DH proceeded to check it out for himself and took a big ole bite. His face was priceless. He apparently thought I must be prone to exaggeration regarding the nastiness of my food. The waitress was flabbergasted that they had rolled the bread in salt instead of sugar. She immediately went and removed the items from the buffet.

i didn't exactly bite down on this but I was eating at an olive garden in the bar and the bartender was trying to pry 2 pint glasses that had frozen together. Well both of the glasses shattered into a million pieces all over me and my food.

They did replace the food and were extremely apologetic.

btw, is there a pattern here with the Olive Garden?

Last summer when we were having dinner at WPE my DH started to pull a long piece of string out of his mouth. It almosted looked like a magic trick. :rotfl: Anyway, he had taken a bite from his plate of spaghetti and in it was this string. So when the server walked past and asked if everything was OK he showed her the string. She said she would go and get someone.....a few minutes later a guy from the kitchen comes out and is stopping at several tables to ask if everything is OK. When he gets to us we say yes and away he goes. Not realizing that he was looking for our table...we thought he was just doing a random table check. In the end nothing came of it....the girl came back and said that she had asked in the kitchen and they said it had to have come from the meatballs. They wrap them with string before they bake them ...the sring is supposed to be removed before going to the plate. We truely didn't want/expect anything but it was odd that we didn't even get an appology.

Second story....a few years ago we were at a casual restaurant that we went to often. My drink arrived at the table and I noticed a chip in the edge of the glass. I called the server over and just asked for a new glass....no big deal. Well, this guy was almost freaking out about the chip in the glass asking me if I had cut myself and would I be OK. It was WAY over the top. The next thing I know the manager is at the table appologizing 10 different ways and he tells us that our dinner was on them that night. To which I said that was not at all required, I simply wanted them to throw out the glass before someone did cut themselves.

I agree, op, I'd be impressed too.

Nice that they will cover whatever expenses you might incur if your husband's tooth needs repairing.

Back in the 80's I opened a can of 7up and poured some in the glass, went to pour in more and at the bottom of the can was a cockroach!:crazy2:

A few years ago my husband & I were eating at the Hard Rock Cafe in Foxwoods. We both ordered sandwiches and we were eating them when he had a very long string in his. We pulled it out of the sandwich and talked to the manager, apparently his food was sitting next to the sink and that string was a piece of the dish rag. :faint: They could not figure out how it got into his food. But his meal was comped and he was asked if he wanted something else....No, we just left when I was finished.

Last year I went through a Jimmy John's drive through and got a sub. As I started to eat it at home I pulled out what I thought was a piece of gristle in the roast beef. After I pulled it out of my mouth I realized that it was the partially shredded finger of a vinyl food service glove. I opened up the sub and found more pieces of a glove that looked like it had been through the meat slicer. There was probably about a 1/2 a glove in the sandwich (no sign of the glove having been on a hand at the time, thankfully).

I drove back to the store and showed the sandwich and vinyl to the manager on duty and asked her if she had any idea how that got into my sandwich. Her eyes got real big, apologized profusely, went over and punched a bunch of frequent buyer cards, and handed me a new sandwich and punched cards for four additional free subs.

Yep. I once ordered a salad at Bennigans, and bit down on a metal Hello Kitty earring. I showed it to the waiter, and he thought it was funny. He said he would investigate and come back. Long story short, it turned out to be the chef's earring. The worst part was that it was missing a rhinestone eye so I must have swallowed it!

The manager never apologized. He just asked if I wanted something else, which I did NOT. I did email corporate, they sent me a gift card which was supposedly worth $40. When we went to use it a few weeks later we found it only had $15 on it. What a joke. We never did return.

My friend once ordered a salad at a locally owned restaurant. She asked for the dressing on the side. When she went to pour the dressing on her salad she found a piece of chewed gum in it! If that doesn't make you gag, I don't know what will!

Nasty! Did you tell them what you found?

Olive Garden. We didn't eat it but in dishing out our salad, we found a piece of a watch. We asked for the manager and he said he had told the staff not to serve that tray because he knew someone's watch broke right near it.
They gave us a free meal.

Had a bug crawling on the edge of my salad plate in Red Lobster. To be fair, the manager offered me anything at all I wanted to eat, and when I said, "no thanks" he offered me any dessert I wanted. I just wanted to leave, which I did.

At a local seafood shop (Ft. Myers) my wife bit down on a pearl from a fried oyster! No. We didn't keep it. Not much market for fried half developed pearls.

A relative opened a Coke (back in the day when they were in glass bottles) and took a long drink and started choking. Something that looked like cement particles was in it. Coke gave them a case and a profuse apology.

Many years ago, DH and I were having pizza at a local place. Something tasted wierd- I flipped my piece over and there was steel wool in the crust!

The owner was one who always would come around and check on you- I let him know and he was MORTIFIED. Apparently there was a new dishwasher who didn't know not to use steel wool on the (mesh) pizza racks.

He comped our meal, gave us free cookies and joked my baby (I was pregnant at the time) would have free cookies for life. DS hasn't been in for a couple years, but was probably 14 last time he went in. Without saying a word, owner hands him a cookie and then takes our order. :)

GREAT service and I'm sad we're not in there more often due to a job change.

Yes, I found a large piece of latex glove in my sauteed mushroom omelet.
Just thinking about it makes me want to barf :crazy2:
