Hi all,

I am new to this part, usually at the resort board. My brother is getting marry in May in New Orleans, My question is has anyone been to New Orleans and know any fun things to do while there, We are leaving a couple of day earlier so we have time to see some place new.
If anyone has any suggestions or comments that would be great.

Thank you inadvance

Can't help you with New Orleans, but maybe if you add New Orleans into your title you will get some responses quickly.

It's definately for the tourist (no locals hang out here), but you have to hit Bourbon Street at least one night. Yeah, it's a drunken party for the most part, but somewhat unique.

Try to catch some live music, too (another thing New Orleans is known for). I can't give you any recommendations, but I'm sure someone at your hotel could help out.

Never been to New Orleans, but does the "NT" in your screen name stand for North Tonawanda? Just curious since I live in the Buffalo area myself.

Definately take a riverboat cruise. I think some of them even have gambling, if that's your thing.

Take a tour of the city beyond Burbon Street; New Orleans is unlike any other city in the U.S., really. The houses, old plantations upriver, the cemetaries, all add up to one of the greatest architechural (sp?) cities in the U.S.

Bourbon St., French Quarter, Beinets at Cafe du Monde, awesome food, ride the trolley, tons of stuff to do. :)

Thanks for the suggestion, I know I want to go to harrah's casino, not to lucky at atlantic city maybe I will do better in New Orleans, I would love to go to the french quarter, but my 14yr old daughter will be with me if the rest of the family comes along, it is o.k. to bring her there.I know they have different tour like the cemetry tour with my dd and dn's want to go to, how are they?
Thank you all for the help
The nt in ntdiane is something the computer picked for me. I live close to the city.

We went to a couple of the cemetaries... they were pretty cool. Mostly I just remember the food.

I think the french quarter is very family friendly during the day for a 14 year old... but not at night.

I live in New Orleans, so if you want to PM or e-mail me, I will help you out as much as I can.

With your DD, I would be cautious about the French Quarter at night, but you could go in the evening/early night (not later than 8 or 9 pm) to show her some of it if you like. During the day, it is like a different place. The Market Place down by the river is great during the day. Also, Aquarium of the Americas and Audubon Zoo are fun.

And the food is outstanding!!!

Here are a couple of sites for you to explore:

www.nola.com
www.insideneworleans.com (not my favorite, but OK)
www.digitalcity.com (select New Orleans)

Have fun!

The French Quarter is fine during the day for kids. At night it gets very "racy". They have a big mall that goes along the Mississippi River...it may be called Riverwalk, but I may be wrong!. Take a bus tour of the city, as there is a lot beyong the French Quarter. Take a cemetery tour. Take a bayou tour. Take a tour of the antebellum mansions. The concierge at your hotel should be able to hook you up with all kinds of tours. We also took a tour of "Haunted New Orleans", as it was near Halloween when we went...kind of corny, but fun...not really scary! Millions of little shops in the FQ. Jackson Square is a neat place to just hang around and watch street performers etc.

You won't be bored in New Orleans.

Pat O Brians for a Hurricane-your dd can have a coke!!

We went to Cafe du Monde's every night on our girls trip to New Orleans. The beignets are great! The walking tour of the Garden District (I think that was what it was called) was neat. It shows some of the 'American' houses in town. Hit any and all of the restaurants you can....the food there is great. The riverboat cruise is neat, too. I would definitely go to the FQ during the day. It's interesting just to see the buildings/architecture. We also toured Oak Alley, a plantation outside of New Orleans with oak trees that are hundreds of years old. It was beautiful!

Have a great trip!

Go to a cooking school! I had to drag my DH while he was kicking and screaming and he wound up loving it. There is one in the Riverwalk Mall. The one we went to was in the Jax Brewery building. Much fun and a delicious lunch!
