Anyone ever been to MK on Gay Day?

We will be at WDW June 4-11th, and though I knew that the Gay Day event would be finishing up on Sunday, June 5th, I didn't realized that would be MK day. That's the day that we planned on going to MK. It's not the population that is the problem, but the number of people that may be attending, something like 100,00.

Has anyone been to MK the same day as the Gay Day celebration? I'm just wondering if we should avoid MK because of crowds on that day. We will be taking our 6 y.o grandson, and the 2 y.o for the first time. Any thoughts on this?

It gets pretty crowded. Most everyone during gay week wears red, so stay away from that color.

I happened to be in Epcot last year (girl's day out for the last day of the Epcot Flower Festival) and it was pretty packed. The hubby's stayed home and were laughing when we told them that it was Gay Day (we had forgotten), so everyone assumed we "were a couple."

It can be uncomfortable if you are not very tolerant to the hugging, kissing and hand holding of those of the same sex, so be aware that you will see this.

I was at MK on "gay day" last year and I found the crowds to be quite tolerable. I don't remember any really extraordinary lines and we had a great time. I'm actually sad we won't be able to attend this year!

I was at the MK gay day in 2001 and last year at the MGM day. The crowds were heavier than normal but I don't think that it is any more crowded than a day in July. We always go this week and it is ok. Remember that there are two different sites to plan for now, so you really have to avoid Sat and Sun. We are going Monday but just in the AM for CRT

I've been there the last two years and it was pretty crowded. Well the first year I went, it was unbearably crowded...but last year I knew the schedule ahead of time so I avoided the park. I don't mind the event itself, but I like my space and that was just too much for me...it gets me all jittery. It's the same reason why I don't go during spring break season.

I've been at opening a couple times and thought it was very crowded -- I'm surprised to hear people say it wasn't. We always planned around it b/c of crowds but ended up there in 1999 b/c it was the day the Pooh ride officially opened and again in either 2000 or 2001 b/c Buzz Lightyear had been closed all week and it was our last day.

It's not too bad if you're going to hop to another park by mid-day like we did. It's not the park I would choose if I were staying all day. Of course, I wouldn't choose MK on a Saturday in general if you have other options.

SO whats wrong with RED? Some of us might want to wear that color.....

All kidding side, last year I was there specifically because of Gay Day(s) and it really didn't appear anymore crowded than a real busy day at the parks during peak season. One of the good things about Park Hoppers are that if one park it too crowded for your liking, you can swing over to another park.

We were there during gay days in 2000. It was no big deal. The parks are a little more crowded than normal but not as crowded as they will be in a couple of weeks when school is out for all of the schools. I think that as many people stay away from the park on a scheduled Gay Day event as those attending and so it is a wash.

If you are worried, just look at the schedule and hit one of the other parks on that day.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I think I've decided for us to hit MGM or Epcot on Sunday. If we were just taking the six year old, I'd go ahead and do MK as planned, but I'm not sure how the 2 year old will be standing in long lines. So, we'll go to MK on Monday instead, and hope that the crowd factor will be a little less.

We were there in 2001. MK opened 1 1/2 hour early for resort guest. We arrived about 7:45 and walked on to every ride in Fanantsy Land with no wait. We then spent about 45 minutes in Toontown and headed to Tomorrow Land. The park wasn't too crowded until 10:30 at that time we headed back to our hotel. This early entry wasn't announced until the day before. I don't know if they do this every year, but if they do, you might want to spend the early morning at MK then hop to another park about 10.

Nothing wrong with red - she is not as open as I am to "different things" and she made the comment that she was glad she stayed away from red. I think it was just too funny. By the way, you guys make a great couple and I enjoyed eating lunch at Nine Dragons with all the other couples.

Yes, it seems a little bit more crowded, but that is the way it is every weekend in the summer, no matter what.

Gay Days! If there's one thing I do not want to see in Disneyworld is gay people! Oh wait, I am gay and I am in Disneyworld at times... I guess it won't be that bad! <please tell me you see the tongue in cheek!>

Now where did I put those red & lime green shorts I had specially made????
So Gold Ears, micket T-shirt, and red & lime green shorts... sounds like I will make the fashion pages! :goodvibes

Sorry, been sick all week and am feeling better tonight so I am a bit silly!

Does anyone know what the schedule is for the Gay Days? My ds and I are going to be there the first week of June. I hate to hear about Sat. being so crowded since we'll probably go that day for the evening parade. That's okay though, I'll just be so Happy to be there I don't think the crowds will even bother me. I knew about Gay Days but haven't told my ds yet. It's just that she works at the school and we had to wait till school was out to go on this trip. I didn't want to wait any later because of it getting so warm as the month goes on. Do you think she'll even notice? I don't think it will bother her other than she might be afraid people might think we are a couple.

We went a few years back before we had dd. We went with my sister and BIL and had no idea why everyone was wearing red. BIL had a red t shirt on and before he knew said smartly "well I guess I fit right in today, none of you do." Well once we figured it out we were hysterical, well at least sis and I was :rotfl2:

No really, I didn't think the crowds were any different and we met a lot of nice people waiting in lines and standing out for parades and such. There was this one couple we kept running into and ended up watching the parade and fireworks with. I tell ya what, I would go back again even with dd now. It was one of the best times we had at Disney.

Excuse me? You may need to go back and read my original post. I said nothing about being glad that I stayed away from red. YOU are the only one that said anything about red. "She" is very open to "different things," as you put it. The reason that I would stay away from MK on Gay day would be due to a larger crowd of people that usual, NOT for any other reason.

So many entertaining posters here, thanks for the chuckles:

And cute couple, Mister Disney!

May you all have a wonderful Gay Days Week -- whether you're straight or gay! Wish we were going, but we just got back last month.

We are so taking away your gay card! :wizard:

Can anyone tell me the schedule for Gay Week? I'd like to avoid any crowds that we can -- that's why we take the kids out of school for the week to go to Disney! Thanks!

Here's a link to the official website with the schedule of events: http://www.gayday.com/schedule/2003/default.asp

Reminder folks...this is not a debate board...let's keep this a civil thread! People are looking for crowd information not opinions on how people live their life. ::MickeyMo
